I was wondering if anyone could help me with my dilemma of my Sing stopover. I'm travelling into Changi on a SQ flight that arrives at approx 6am and am leaving with QF at 7.45pm that day, so I have a day with the family in Sing. I'd like to book a hotel room so kids can play in pool etc, maybe morning snooze if we're tired from overngiht flight, but the transit hotel is inside the departure terminal i understand. Given we have to change airlines from SQ to QF i wont have tickets for the QF flights until late afternoon i think and will have to pick up luggage after the SQ flight so will have to exit the terminal. Would prefer the transit hotel so i can pay for 6 hour blocks as would be difficult to book a hotel room given checkout times around noon.
Any ideas on how we can do this?

How about the Crowne Plaza Changi. I have used it many times for overnight stays. Its very nice and very convenient. Its attached directly to the new Terminal 3 and is land-side. Being an airport hotel, I expect they have options for day stays as well as overnights.

Crowne Plaza good. Note that whatever you do, you can only enter Singapore once a day. You can have lots of fun at Changi, including a swim if you stay at Ambassador, and never clear customs, although there is monstrous slide in T3 landside I'm sure the kids would be keen on.

Qantas offers early check-in from 10am (Singapore Changi Airport Guide | Qantas) so if the transit hotel is more cost effective, you could claim your bags from your SQ flight, maybe store them for four or so hours, take the train into the city for breakfast, then come back to the airport, check your luggage in early for your QF flight, go airside, check-in to the hotel for six hours, then head to the QF lounge around 5/6pm.

Leave checked luggage with the keeper, transit hotel and pool all airside and when you are finished head out through customs to collect your luggage and then head over to check-in for QF flight.

While it is instinctive to go collect your bags at an airport on arrival, apparently Singapore is NOT one of those places! You can go straight from your flight to the transit hotel, sleep, then go landside and collect your bags from the left luggage office. They supposedly (for all the reports i have read) pick up left bags after pax have gone and store them for you (I guess they are used to people using the transit hotel). If you need more evidence to support this you can google - but I had the same question the other day and all the results said it's fine to not go collect them.

I have done this a number of times now and have not had an issue although I have stayed in the Skyview Lounge overnight and went to collect luggage in the morning.

I am doing this in fact in June... Coming in on QF5 landing 22:00 and next flight 10:40 next morning.. Staying at the ambassador for the night collecting luggage in the morning for next flight. Apparently the name does not do the luggage collection the next day justice "lost luggage".
P.S. traveling with 3 of us do we all need to collect the luggage and recheck for next flight or is just one of us enough?

All three passengers travelling will need to recheck for the flight along with their baggage. The only exception would be if you already have boarding passes, and one or two of you can take the entire baggage allowance between you. Then you would just check all the bags under you allowance. If you each need your allowance its 3x people at check-in.

I would also imagine all three pax would need to present themselves to collect their bags from left luggage (and provide ID/baggae claim tags) so the above might be a moot point. If you're already out collecting the bags ten check-in is an easy next step.

For the more official type of baggage services, it's <$5 SGD for a normal size suitcase for 24 hours, available in all terminals. However, you'll find the Crowne Plaza to be significantly more costly than the transit hotels. There are plenty to do inside the terminal, all of which are linked, so you can go across in the sky train, or simply walk over. The pool is in terminal 1, while other terminals have other attractions, such as free movies.

but of course you would then have to clear immigration - so getting back to the transit hotel would be a problem.
