Forgive me - I know this has likely been done before, but I can't find it under search.

I have a DONE5 running which includes a JL5 (actually the AA codeshare) flight from JFK-NRT. I have purchased a DCA-JFK one way flight on AA (American Eagle, actually) to connect to it - which is on a different PNR to the DONE5, of course.

I will be landing at JFK Terminal 8 and will have 4.5 hours to transfer so easily surpassing the minimum connection times. I figure I would check out the AA Flagship Lounge at JFK T8 before making my way over to Terminal 1 for breakfast at the T1 JAL First Lounge, then fly out at midday.

The question I have is how can this be done smoothly - I'm assuming that I'll be able to show the itineraries at DCA and get my baggage sorted out and checked through DCA-JFK-NRT no problems due to interlining agreements. But will I be able to get boarding passes for both flights at DCA? Or should I try to link the two bookings? Would that help?

I can't see a problem with AA through checking the bag to another AA (marketed) flight operated by JL.

I can't think of an instance where an airline (AA) has a codeshare arrangement with another (JL) & doesn't have an IATCI (inter airline through checkin) to issue the boarding passes.

Ideally in DCA your bags will be checked through to NRT & you will get both boarding passes but if not you can easily get your boarding pass from the JAL Lounge in JFK.

Even in the worst case scenario of having to pick up your bags in JFK & recheck you have 4.5 hours which gives you adequate time if required.

With that amount of time you should be fine.

I'd try to get the codeshare checked in at DCA but it shouldn't be a problem.

Even if they can't check you onto the flight, any bags should be checked through - just make sure you have copies of both e-tickets at DCA.

Thanks guys - I suspected I could always get the bags checked through - but the main reason I wanted the boarding pass was that I wanted to have a boarding pass for an onward flight when I landed at JFK Terminal 8, I could have a quick stop at the JFK AAdmirals Flagship Lounge and then I will have completed my tour of the AA Flagship Lounges in the USA. Then after the brief visit wander over to Terminal 1 via the train and go to the JAL First Lounge. Without the boarding pass in my hand for the AA Codeshare being my onward flight, I'm not sure I could get into the Terminal 8 Flagship Lounge - if I had to wait until I got to JFK Terminal 1, I will have missed my opportunity for the Flagship!

Never had a problem - inbound on AA to T8, out on QF108 from T7, simply showed my e-ticket at lounge entrance.

Checked in once over at T7

Thanks for this - this will be my plan in the event I can't get both boarding passes at DCA. Much appreciated for the advice.
