Hi All,

Currently I have 15,000 Krisflyer miles left after some had epired. As I am now a loyal Qantas FF I have no need to use these points on SQ anymore, the rest of the points expire later in the year and have no plans to fly with them again in the foreseeable future.

Does Krisflyer have the facility to transfer/convert miles to another program for example, Marriott Rewards?

I had a look on the site but couldn't find what I was after.

Any pointers would be appreciated, Cheers!

You cannot transfer KrisFlyer miles to someone else although you can redeem awards for upto to 5 nominees.

Looking at Mileage Converter it would appear that you could transfer miles to Krisflyer but not from KrisFlyer. They have very poor conversion ratios anyway.

I think you have enough miles (12,500) for a one-way anywhare in the South Pacific. Can you top up the account from say Amex Membership Rewards and get a menaningful award redemption before the miles expire?

No, you cannot transfer these miles to other programs. It is a "use it or lose it" program (like most of not all FF programs). You cannot even redeem into car hire, hotel stays.

Normally you cannot really do much with 15K miles within Australia. You can only redeem short South East Asia flights from Singapore. However will recent rule change, you can redeem 1-way Economy from Australia to New Zealand AND/OR 1 South Pacific Island on Air New Zealand (half of 25K points required = 12.5K points). See award chart below:

Run an auction on eBay for a one way tix from NZ to OZ. Seems to be a popular direction to travel. Set them up as your nominee and convert some of those points to cash (less taxes of course)

Is this within the rules of the program?

Who is to say that a person who has just received your points (OK they did pay you money) is not your friend? :p ;)

Finally got a reply from SQ and I can extend my miles for up to 6 months by paying a small fee until I decide what to do with them.

Thanks for all your advice.

For everyones information here are the details:

Conditions of Mileage Extension
1. Only miles expiring in the current and next five months are available for extension.
2. Members may extend up to three consecutive months’ worth of miles per transaction.
3. Miles may only be extended once.
4. For KrisFlyer members, miles can only be extended by six months; for KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold and PPS Club members, miles can be extended by one year.
5. Miles that have already expired cannot be extended.
6. The service fee for extending KrisFlyer Miles online is 1,200 miles or USD12 per 10,000 miles extended or part thereof.

Doing such a thing if it was relatively private arrangement would be almost impossible to detect, but publicly auctioning over e-bay is a different matter. Although unless it was a repeated /commonly done by same person I doubt SQ would find out or if they did bother prosecuting.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
