Later this year, I have a RTW ticket that involves UA from MEL-LAX and LAX-BOS. The rescheduled connection at LAX is tight (UA99 arr 0640 to UA824 dep 0815). The next connecting UA direct flight is at 2300! The travel agent told me the connection was tight but if I missed the flight (that would be quite likely) I shouldn't have any trouble with UA rebooking me on a later connecting flight. It can't be done that way on my ticket apparently - only direct flights. I notice there are many UA options between 0815 and 2300.

I remember something similar happening at LAX back in 2000 and UA rebooked me without any fuss or bother and I was on my way.

I wonder if anyone on here has had some more recent experiences similar to what I might encounter?

All on the one ticket you will be ‘protected’ and reaccommodated on to a later flight if you miss your connection. It will depend on availability, but plenty of options to get you to BOS. This is fairly routine stuff in the States, nothing to worry about (other than the extra time). I’d stick with your original flights and see how it turns out on the day.
