Trains, planes and dole hit by strike

RAIL workers, job centre staff and France Telecom employees are out on strike today – with more industrial action expected in the coming week, including a proposed walkout by Eurostar.

The strike by ground handlers at Paris Orly airport’s south terminal, which has affected Easyjet flights for the past week, has now spread.

Vehicle access to the whole airport was blocked yesterday, forcing passengers to reach the terminal on foot. Some workers at the west terminal have also walked out, affecting Air France flights.

Easyjet flights out of Orly are still disrupted today, with a number of cancellations and other services taking off and landing from Charles de Gaulle with a bus shuttle service in operation.

I have an easyjet flight on Friday morning. So far, easyjet have been proactive with two emails me advising that the flight has changed departure airports from ORL to CDG. An update on their website shows that the departure will also be delayed by 3 hours.

I have been refreshing my understanding of travel insurance. Further reading of the article looks like it may get worse. At this stage we are still in Amsterdam and giving consideration to bypassing Paris due to the strike(s).

Checkin at CDG Terminal 3 was pretty interesting. Quite a hike from the Metro station. The hall that they were using for temporary checkin was antiquated. It was good to see the old curved face CRT display screens still-in use.

Checkin was three later than originally planned. We finally arrived in Milan just 4 hours later than the original schedule.

For our troubles we received a E4.50 voucher for spending before the flight or onboard.

All up I think Easyjet did a good job managing with the chaos and I would fly with them again.
