We are trying to find tours of East coast USA for next year, but are not having any luck(or may be not looking in right places).
If anybody has any ideas, please feel free to offer any advice. My wife and I have only ever been to LA.
I wait with growing excitement.:)

Is there any reason why you want a tour?
I feel a rental car is a much better way of seeing the USA-so much is outside the major cities and even tours are not going to give you what you really like.
If you just want to see the major cities then fly in and arrange your sightseeing locally.most have pretty good public transport systems and with a little planning you can fit most major sights in easily.
Go to the websites of the States you want to visit, visit their tourism centre and they will send you their states current tourist brochures-yes and free to Australia.
So let us know what you want to see.I have done a few TRs that include usually some detailed info about driving in the states-I find it much easier than here generally.

I have driven extensively throughout the USA and agree that a car is the best option. The highway system is great, and easy if you remember that highways with even numbers go east-west, and odd numbers go north-south, and you won't get lost. With a car you will also find very affordable accommodation in towns just outside the city limits.

Having been through the US many times I too agree that it can be done on your own. In saying that there are people who prefer tours for any number of reasons. My boyfriends parents did this tour last year and loved it

East Coast USA & Canada 2010 – Trafalgar Tours, Escorted Tours, Package Holidays, Travel by Coach & Bus, Vacations

Plus on this tour you are seeing the lovely Quebec City and Montreal!

There are a couple of tour companies I would suggest looking at.. They differ on who the tour is aimed at and comfort. I believe Trafalgar mainly caters to a mature crowd where as groups like Contiki or Globus serve younger individuals.

Globus - Australia

Travel Europe, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, and Asia — Tours for 18-35 year olds — Contiki Tours

Thank You everybody, this has given much to think about, and I welcome any more that come. The car idea had gone thru my mind, but my wife is not in favour. I much prefer tours, I guess I 'm just basically lazy. I have looked at the tour East Coast USA & Canada 2011, and it is very much what we are after. I will continue to look and I wait for other advise.
Thank you

Good links but just to point out Globus is more comparable to Trafalgar, generally for the mature market though is open to all (and Globus aims for 3+ - 4 star standard hotels as a guide).

Have you considered travelling along the East Coast by train? It's really easy to travel from Boston to New York, then Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, by train.

The wife and I have used the wonder of the twenty first century. That is the world wide web, and have discovered a number of tour companies out of the USA. The prices are very good, and they cover every think that we want. Now we have to do the airfares, but we will wait till after Xmas, for that. Or is it better to book early or later??

When next year are you planning on going over? Which city are you looking into beginning your tour in?

Check out Scenic Tours. They provide a First Class tour and is an Australian Company based in Newcastle.

USA Tours

A few years ago, 4 of us decided to drive the West Coast. Yes it is easy,but.......not as good as any tours that I have done and probably more expensive.

Let someone else do the work and relax. My experience with Scenic was a 14 day tour in Egypt and I cannot fault them. Hotels, food and guides all first classs.
