To Transfer or not to Transfer.

I have been looking at the currrent promotion 15% bonus to transfer Altitude Points to Velocity and thought a member may be able enlighten me on these issues.Making a dummy booking from Bne to Lax via Westpack Altitude all flight are routed via Syd for 308,335 points return plus taxes.The Syd to Lax flights are via the Bne direct flight???.If i transfer points over to Velocity the direct flight Bne to Lax is 176,600 points plus taxes.I realise you do not gain points or status credits for Reward redemptions.Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.Apologies if this should be in the Velocity thread.
