What are Tiger up to? The other three airlines have sales on for PER-MEL, but Tiger seem to have put their price up dramatically to $309.95 each way. Odd.

Before the "other three airlines" had their MEL-PER sales(which all started today, well DJ went on sale first) Tiger would have been the cheapest, but now they have been outdone cause of sales. Searching into 2009, there is MEL-PER on tiger for 89.95, noway you will ever get this on JQ/DJ anymoreAlso, this flight is possibly 70/80% full already, so that is what LCC do, up the ante. MEL-PER would be one of TT"s best performing routes (never experienced a flight on this route on Tiger, which is now 6 times, under 90%!)Tiger also do not follow JQ/DJ/QF's sales, Tiger will have a sales every week, or everyday of the year there is a Tiger sale. If JQ have a $1 sale to LST or ADL, TT wont follow, they stick to themselves.Their current sale at the moment isn't to bad though, those OOL prices are always unbelieveable

Well, Tiger's business practices leave me rather confused. Hopefully they know what they are doing (though I doubt it).

Last week I was in the market for several PER-SIN and SIN-PER tickets. I checked TR and they were quite ridiculous. Then I checked JQ and was able to purchase several tickets SIN-PER for approx AUD 130 each.

Also, Tiger's flights are out of this huge, horrible barn of a place (the "Budget" terminal at SIN) which is a major turnoff to me, being several km's from the main terminals and having virtually zero facilities. Flying JQ from Terminal 1 in SIN gets you all the frills you would expect from Singapore Airport.

Tiger's booking engine is broken - not showing December Intl flights.

I wanted to do a MEL->SIN anytime in December. Nothing comes back or it says flights are full or not available - 5 months out I find that difficult to believe, and I was looking since March - nothing then either.
But Darwin to SIN is there. So I think OK, Tiger may be quitting some flights/reducing its presence. Along comes JQ with a sale to 10th December - that may rope me in if this block of dates does not open up soon.

Question: How many months out does TG open its books - or is something afoot.

There's currently nothing in the schedules for MEL-DRW post 25 Oct.

Well, that is roughly 3 months and a week.
However PER -> SIN is open in Dec, and SIN to other Asian destinations are also open . So have the others finally got MEL>DRW on the ropes?

So I wont be booking any other Tiger connecting flights to go with the flight I can't buy. It would also be good if one could punch in MEL>KUL, but their engine dont seem to cope with that either - or is it to get another set of inconvenience fees?

Those expensive seats on Tiger would have been the last 5%-10%
of seats left, as usual airlines would left a small % of seats at expensive prices for last minute pax.

Regarding MEL=>DRW=>SIN flight combo for Dec 2008, ATM they only have DRW=>SIN, but not MEL=>DRW. I would presume they don't really want to sell flight combo for MEL=>DRW=>SIN for Xmas.....

Last year I travel with them SIN=>DRW=>MEL flight combo around Xmas,
due to typhoon in DRW flight delayed for one day, and they paid for overnight accomodation + dinner + transfer + breakfast + lunch (in SIN) ... + dinner in DRW... guess they did not make any money (for my flight) ...

The LCC terminal in SIN is not that bad, at least they have fast free internet for those who have a laptop...
I spent 5 hours there during the delay I was able to Facebook my pics, youtube and even plan
for my next holiday !

It has nothing to do with whether they want to sell flight combo or not. At this point in time, it is all about the fact that they have not scheduled a single MEL-DRW flight post October. You can't buy MEL-DRW, let alone a combo.

Looks like JQ may have knocked out TR and DJ on this route?

I note that Jetstar still have some cheap fares available MEL-DRW. I picked a random date (18 Nov) and it was showing a fare of $119 available.

Yes, that is what I am thinking - MEL-Darwin is or may nomore for Tiger after October. Hopefully tiger will replace it with BNE > DRW, and re-jig things so a MEL>SIN is cost effective relative to AsiaAir and the rest.

But word of advice to Tiger. Back in Ansett days, with FF points, there was an interesting legal case about no FF actually being available top end, and foul play with lack of seats on the 'highest cost' FF miles. Later a Dummy spit over Alice Springs. QF will cheer, if they beat off this cancer - cheap seats above the Brisbane line - its what they have been working at.

Therefore work at a spoiling strategy on the most expensive FF miles. I also wonder why they do not put on 1 charter flight a month to say USA, or China around CNY. Doing something different is how to beat the incumbents.
