As predicted. Article below has better details. http://http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/08/01/1217097483233.html

As Jetstar is getting an EIGHT (8) million plus taxpayer handout for a Darwin Hub, and has been price sniping Tiger on MEWDRW, it is logical to quit the route - unless they too get a guvvy handout of cash too.

The Tiger Australian Website still has Darwin on the 'Map' , and is still retarded, as it wont accept a MELSIN choice -yet. Lame.

Tiger is mum about their new overseas hub, but price checks reveal PERTH is an odds on favorite, because the other likely candidate - OOL is awash in other airlines - marketing hell to grab the mind of the buyer off the incumbents.

However, more price checks show PERSIN flights to be fully priced, not cheap at all, and bearing no relation to how full the plane is. For Melbourne people, Jetstar looks better and better, and sales for celebrate their new hub will steal/choke/maul tiger forward bookings if they don't wake up.

I feel Tiger are making several fundamental mistakes. I give them a tip MELPER->BALI. JQ is pricing the seats higher than BKK, so the demand seems to be there. And don't fuss to much about the present JQ sales - the cheap seats on these are thin or have been picked out.

They're also about to face increased competition on PER-SIN as well, Jetstar plans on starting to operate that route in a few months time.

Yep, I snagged 3x $300 return airfares all inclusive of taxes

Cheaper than a trip to Sydney! :p And the nightlife in Singapore is far more exotic. I got myself quite a bargain trip when Tiger first started flying the route as well.

However, I was surprised to see Jetstar announce this route. I wouldn't think it was really the time for airlines to be opening up any new routes, especially not one where they'd be in direct competition with another LCC. After all, there's no loyalty in the LCC market, the passengers (myself included) will fly with whoever is cheapest, even if the difference is only $5!
