Article in the NT news today states that Tiger are close to returning back to DRW, and the government is aslo talking to Air Asia. Interesting to read the indonesian expereince, with demands for domestic cabotage on an exclusive basis without reciprocal rights in Indonesia.

Tiger looks at coming back to NT | Northern Territory News | Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia | ntnews.com.au

TIGER Airways is considering a return to Darwin despite pulling out of Alice Springs.
The budget airline is expecting new aircraft later this year.
And a Tiger source said: "An announcement about the Territory could be made within a week of the planes arriving."
But the airline wants lower fees per passenger from Darwin International Airport before restarting services.
Tiger scrapped its Darwin-Singapore service, saying airport charges made the route unviable.
The Territory Government said it was working with Tiger Airways and AirAsia about them operating between Darwin and their Asia hubs.

?????

Anyway, lets hope its not operated as an overnight service. I have seen $69 fares MEL-DRW fron Virgin to Darwin last month, but this 2am departure is yuck.

Tiger back with cheap flights | Northern Territory News | Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia | ntnews.com.au

TERRITORIANS can expect cheaper airfares, with Tiger Airways announcing it will return to Darwin.

The decision to recommence flights to the Top End after suspending its services in October 2008 comes as figures showed a 50 per cent rise in traveller numbers between Darwin and Melbourne.

The cut-price airline will fly six times a week between Melbourne and Darwin from June 18.
