Ticket issued with first name duplicated

So I made a booking on the weekend for our first Virgin flight in many years and for some reason my first name has duplicated on the booking/e-ticket. I didn't notice it until today when I went to add my partner's velocity number to the booking. Flight is to Vanuatu. Just called and told it will incur a change fee and I'll be advised of fee only after emailing reservations with supporting evidence.

What the? Who's called Peter Peter?

My work res system duplicates first name for some reason if middle name is not added and I'm wondering if this is what's happened. It's on dom bookings though. This of course is international.

Should I change it or just ignore it? Will they care at the airport? Any idea what is this going to cost to fix if I have to change it seeing as they couldn't tell me over the phone?

I can certainly say that it will cost to fix it as I had a similar encounter around 2017. I was booking tickets for my parents along with a kid on a virgin flight from MEL to SYD. For some strange reason my mother was marked as a child and my kid was marked as an adult. I remember calling them and asking them to fix but they did mention it will lead to changes and I had to pay $150 if I remember correctly. Again depends on the flight and T&C for that fare class.

Since this is a known fault in your work reservation system, they should resolve the matter.

I wonder if the airline will even touch the reservation given it was made by a third party? Usually they refer the passenger back to the booking agent.
 
I’d be going back to the booking agent to point out they’ve done it wrong and to fix it.
 
I booked this myself. Comment about work system was just an aside. Oh well, I suppose I'd better get it done :(
 
If you mean online via VA website, i’d be pushing that its a system issue (unless you think you entered it twice!), and get them to change it gratis.

Failing that, personally i’d probably just leave it and show up at the airport.

Nah Doc, I did it all myself via Virgin. 99% sure I didn't enter my first name twice but who knows. We use Serko at work. I'm considering leaving it but would hate to rock up and be turned away. Gahhhhhhhh
 
Just an idea (or rather a question): I do not know the answer as I do not use a middle name, but does a middle name actually appear on a boarding pass?

If it doesn't then I do not think there will be any issue.
 
I had a flight to NZ last year where my boarding pass said eg Rob instead of Robert and I checked in and got my boarding pass and went to the lounge and asked them about it and they said I might be OK but I might not and as I didn't have much time to connect in Sydney I chose to pay the exorbitant $80 to get it changed (but I didn't have to pay GST because it was an international flight) - WTF I had noticed it the day before but decided I'd wait to see what they said before I did anything

What was the worry once you actually got your BP? They've dipped your passport and happily checked you in so that is the major check over. The check at the plane gate is basically to ensure you have a passsport and BP.

I was in Adelaide and had to go through immigration in Sydney who I thought might be a little more vigilant and I didn't have a lot of time to mess around. I was really annoyed because my full name is on my QFF profile so you'd think they would match the name on the booking to the one on your profile

The thing about this was that I'd logged in and my details were pre-populated. I even noticed second name was blank and pretty sure I left it blank (I have no idea why). I've emailed Virgin res as instructed and waiting for a response.
 
I thought I'd better close this out. Email back from res telling me to call. Email was a bit garbled but in escence told me I needed to change and it might cost me. I called, told it might cost me, change made, came back as no cost. Sorted. Why didn't they do that when I first called?

Just because... don’t waste your time or brain cells trying to work out logic here!

They stuffed up many a booking for me. Almost as bad as Concur / SAP.
