Don't know if anyone was as gob smacked as us to see a Virgin ad showing a flight attendant throwing an open bottle of wine across the cabin with a Captain standing in the aisle with a grin on his face.

Nope. I thought it was clever. It would be a pretty boring world if we take any fun out of everything.

I think it's a very smart ad

I've always wondered who the people were who wrote in to complain about TV adverts. I think my question has just been answered

I think it's a bit of a silly ad in an industry that is so safety and passenger behaviour conscious.

Not a week goes by without some sort of "horror" pax or crew behaviour story. Often involving alcohol.

I don't hate it or would officially complain about it. But for me the bit throwing an opened bottle over the heads of pax from one aisle to the other is just silly/stupid.

I explained this in the other thread about it.

Advertising has to comply with the AANA Codes re content and that includes things like not breaching prevailing community standards on health and safety. In order to counter the tiny minority who take exception, the key is to over exaggerate something so it goes into the category of clearly exaggerated/ fantastical/ not expected in real life.

And that's what they have done here. There is no realistic expectation they'd throw a champagne bottle around a cabin in flight thus it would be highly doubtful it could be seen as dangerous etc

AAMI have done the same with their Dave ads, Kit Kat did it with brick juggling, there is an ad with a monkey at the zoo stealing a biscuit and there is a beer ad too from memory.

Yes, I got all that.

But the concerns about passenger and crew behaviour are actually current and frequent and the actions shown in the ad are perhaps not beyond what some pax might do - or at least think it's OK to do. So while it's obviously an exaggeration, it sets a pretty poor example of behaviour.

For me it's just silly to do for an industry having issues with pax behaviour.

Wow.... Just...wow. That was an eye opener..but quite entertaining lol.......Some people need to get a life!

I'm immortalised in a few of those cases - well my words on behalf of an advertiser are! Some of the complaints are so ludicrous but you have to respond and it actually takes a fair amount of work to put together a decent response.

But I've been on the winning side each time.
