Couldn't find any info on this online - I'm thinking of trying BNE-MEL on the B787 next month, connecting to Launceston.

However there are no award seats MEL-LST, so I'd need to book BNE-MEL with points and MEL-LST on cash.

Can I through-check my luggage from BNE-MEL-LST on two separate tickets, from QF to JQ or QF to QF Link? The connecting time between flights is just 40 minutes, so picking it up at the carousel is not an option.

Second question - BNE-MEL is in Business and MEL-LST is in Economy as it's Dash-8. Can I still get Business Lounge access in Melbourne during the transit?

Thanks for any assistance.

IIRC - QFd to JQd won't get checked through regardless of separate/same ticket.

no. It's very clear.
You must collect your bags at MEL domestic bag claim then walk to T4 and check in with JQ. There is no through check. So if you do this, allow plenty of time for a) delays (and note the 787 may or may not be reliable depending on what schedule they are keeping with BNE-and I am flying it myself in a few weeks :) ) and the JQ flight, plus the 15 or so minutes to get over to T4. To be safe I'd allow at leas 90min from scheduled QF arrival at MEL (which I hink is 1825) and JQ to LST (eg: 8pm +)

Thanks all for your replies. I now have a new question:

Assuming I fly QF all the way, BNE-MEL is in Business and MEL-LST is in Economy as it's Dash-8. Can I still get Business Lounge access in Melbourne during the transit?
No, unless you are Platinum/OWE or higher.

Technically they would have grounds to say no, but you can try to argue that it's a single class a/c with no J available.

Be aware though that the renovations of the J lounge are underway and the limited space conditions, and given the time of evening that the QF627(I think it is) arrives they may push back a bit on capacity... it just depends.. but I'd say it's possible based on no J available on the aircraft.
