QR can't fly into Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE. With all this Iran stuff happening now, what are your thoughts?
They still fly through Iran on the way to Europe and straight through the hormuz strait towards Australia.
QR don't have much options do they?

Not sure if i should start looking at changing my OWA flights now... but I really want to go on the Q Suite too.
+ i'm not sure if i will be able to find any other J award flight for my dates in April next year.

Proxy wars/battles and general instability are nothing new to the middle east. Iran and Qatar largely get along fine, more so since the other Gulf States threw their toys and cut off ties with Qatar.

I am flying QR next month and the following (inc. through DOH and other parts of the MER) and have zero concerns at this time.

You might be safer not flying at all ;) . You know e.g drunk pilots on US airlines, pilots smoking on Chinese airlines, Boeings with computers that have a mind of their own, air traffic controllers having heart attacks at their post, taxis crashing on the way to the airport. I mean who can you trust these days?

I’m at SQ lounge now and will be on QR with family in a couple of weeks. I’m comfortable at the moment.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess i'm more scared Qatar might cancel or reduce their flights which will cause chaos.
I'm going to hope everything will be fine next year - this 6 month wait is going to kill me.

I think it's fair to say that Qatar's hard and soft products are overwhelmingly viewed as among the very best in the world (sometimes, the best). Akbar al Baker is more inclined to add routes just out of spite. Yes, it seems the boycott has impacted the airline's bottom line but I have no doubt whatsoever that it'll continue being among the best for a long time to come.

As chasingdaylight said, Qatar are allies with Iran, so hopefully that's in their favour. I'm a QR fan, and recently flown them and have them again a couple of times next year. The one thing I wasn't impressed with was their routing over Syria when i flew SOF-DOH recently. Route over Turkey only slightly longer ...

There is an increased risk for sure, Iran using or selling drones to Yemen against Saudi. Have they sold ground to air missles even the same type as used in the Ukraine? Possibly. I’m not sure if the USS Vincennes is on patrol either.

I probably wouldn’t, but I care less about a reward ticket than my ability to use one in the future. After all who would have though a Malaysian aircraft over the Ukraine would have been risky.

Being a friend of Iran might not be a great thing if war does break out.Being a friend of an enemy wouldn't be looked on kindly by the US and Saudi.

Seems to be every review on Q suite and the reason why I picked Singapore as my departure city since QR flies Qsuite from singapore 3times a day.
Hopefully they don't change this. It was Singapore or Manila but manila had the really old J product.

You think so? I suggest it'd be one of the safer countries - whilst Saudi may be throwing their toys, I strongly doubt they are going to do anything militarily. Iran would be (at the least) reticent about attacking a Gulf State with whom it is on good (relative) terms.

The US has part of it's Central Command (CENTCOM) based there at Al Udeid Air Base, along with aircraft and a reasonable number of personnel. Suffice to say the US is probably unlikely to strike a country housing them.

BAM - Qatari air defence assets are (from Wikipedia & Janes) all from Western manufacturers. No BUK-2 launchers.

I'm a bit late to this but I flew QR 2 weeks ago SIN-DOH-MAD and it was absolutely fine.
I had my own concerns but you can tell they detour due to the blockade, our flight to Madrid we flew through Iraq then Turkey, but some flights go through Syria due to the blockade as well and as they got permission around April to fly through Syrian airspace (BCN, Italy, Greece to say a few).
