I've stolen/borrowed some questions from PIREP.org, asked by True Blue Vegemite, that I feel are relevant, and becoming even moreso, as airlines (QF in particular) continue to jack these surcharges up.
At what stage of the accounting process the revenue raised from the collection of fuel surcharges paid by passengers, is deducted?
Passengers are being slugged very signifcant amounts in the name of "fuel surcharge" for each sector they book.
How is this amount calculated?
Is it based on average overall Load Factor of Qantas, or on each route, dependant on stage length and average weekly/monthly Load Factor for those flights?
I thought that increased fuel charges were being countered by staff redundancies, and that it was these increased fuel prices that caused Qantas profits to fall?
I'm confused.
Either Qantas is paying for the cost of the fuel, or the passengers are.
How can it be both?
What happens when the money collected as a "Fuel Surcharge" exceeds the amount Qantas actually pays?
Does it go into consolidated revenue?
Is it counted as profit?
Does it count towards Mr Dixon's bonus, as part of overall revenue?
