The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Is there any way of getting the VA website to restrict its searches to premium cabins only? I'm losing the will to live clicking on 20 flights a day only to find there is only economy available.
I hear you, OMG it is painful..... I have not been able to find a better way to do this apart from clicking on every line item.

On another thread somewhere, someone posted about putting in a whole heap of tech commands that would filter out other flights. It looked very techy and I have not tried it but apparently it works

Yes there is - I refer you to this incredibly useful post from @Milefest.

Essentially after you have performed your initial search scan the URL and look for "class=" and change whatever it says to Business. So the new wording is "class=Business"

I use this all the time to see Business inventory only.

Now if someone could suggest how to manipulate the URL so that I only see REWARD seats - not those incredibly expensive normal fares converted to points!

Yes. That’s the one I meant

HI all, newbie here, just got my Plat membership
Question, which credit card you use to collect points?

Question, which credit card you use to collect points?
I use three (with a fourth one that can be transferred to Velocity if I wish to):
  • Elevate Amex
  • Velocity Escape Amex for booking Virgin flights and extra card numbers for Amex Statement Credits
  • Westpac Altitude Velocity Platinum Mastercard
  • David Jones Amex (I can transfer points to Velocity with the points I earn using this card)

Points Hack maintain a comprehensive list:

Check directly with the card providers for any other options, promos etc. As well as the Velocity website for promos.

Can you add an existing Virgin (+Velocity) booking to one's Virgin Business Flyer account? When I search for the booking in the Business portal using PNR, it says not found

QBR let’s you add the ABN later. Does VA have the same function under manage booking?

Can't see it; thats what I'm after. And VBF is on a separate web page.
Technically so’s QBR but it at least let’s you add the ABN via its portal or during/after a commercial fare booking (including mixed paid and points).

I haven’t used VBF in anger since the changeover from its predecessor.

Hi Champions,
I'm new to VA, have gold via status match from QF and have loved it to be honest.
I just booked a trip to Perth to coughet via Singapore with Singapore Air. My travel agent is suggesting I join Kris Flyer. Should I join or just use my VA number? Gold comes with benefits in SIA doesn't it? (I will not be a regular on SIA, most of my travel is domestic on VA)
Thanks all.
Cheers

Given KrisFlyer miles will expire, I reckon just stick with Velocity:

Does anyone know what “Username” / “Password” combo you’re supposed to use to access a “Corporate Travel Bank” account balance linked to a BA Business Flyer account..?

When I try my regular VABF login details, computer says “No”.

My personal VA Travel Bank is just VFF# and Password but that’s a seperate account.

Unsure whether this is a newbie question...

I've got a reward booking in business SYD-SIN-LHR. I currently have a 7.5 hour layover in Singapore from 5:30pm to 1am. I would like to potentially extend that if possible, but there's no way to choose specific flights for each leg. I see that there's heaps of reward availability in the following 1-2 days for the SIN-LHR leg. Booking them together saves bit of cash and points.

Is it possible to call up Virgin and have them swap me to one of these later flights for that leg, giving me a day or so in Singapore? What are the downsides (i.e. do my bags still remain checked through with a ~24 hour layover)? If it is possible, how am I best navigating it - through the standard helpdesk, or are there certain people who understand these sorts of requests better?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You might like to check first whether there's "saver" award availability, on the later flights that you want, to Singapore Airlines' own KrisFlyer members. If there isn't, you won't have much chance of booking the flights via Velocity.

If you can see that there are seats available, you'll only be able to put them on the same booking if the layover is less than 24 hours. Otherwise it's considered a "stopover" and, with Velocity, you'll need to put the flights on separate bookings at the cost of a greater number of points.

Once you've decided on the flights you want and you can see that there's availability, call Velocity. Unlike some other airlines we won't name here, you're likely to get through to someone with the competence to help you change the booking. Expect to pay a $60 change fee although there's no harm in asking nicely for the change fee to be waived.

Thanks! As an added curveball to my plans, availability for BNE-SIN-LHR has appeared where it wasn't yesterday so I'm thinking I'll try to snatch up one of them...

I'm trying to check my bags all the way through, as I will have 3 suitcases to myself and that makes moving them all by myself quite difficult. That's why I wanted it all on the one booking, so I could just take my carry-on and disappear for a day or so.

Partner award bookings

When searching for flights as close as possible to next Xmas within the 330-day limit, the system shows that there is availability for the first "greyed out" day (see Fri, 15 Dec). This is the same for all ex-EU departure cities I've searched.

Is the 'Available' tag a system error, or is there actually a way of booking the flights for the "greyed out" but 'available' flights?Screenshot 2023-01-17 at 3.36.18 pm.png

As a VA Gold traveling in SQ I class (business reward), the baggage on SQ's site says I get 40 kg base, and that star alliance gold gets +20 for 60 kg total. Virgin's website says +15 kg for gold.

Given SQ is doing the entirety of the flight and that I am booked on an SQ ticket, can I be reasonably confident in thinking that they'll let me on with 60 kg rather than 55 kg despite the fact that VA is not related via star alliance? Or are they known for being sticklers about baggage limits?

Secondly, how many bags may this be spread across? I know e.g. QR were happy with unlimited bags so long as the total weight was under the limit. Can I assume the same with SQ?
