A lovely place, peaceful (granted it’s Monday night) and well attentive staff. The manager is a friend of my cousin, so we were accorded a warm welcome, complimentary pappadams and the manager waited on our table today.
It was just me, my sister and my cousin. So a small get together to commemorate my week in Chennai.
Started the evening with some pappdums and a Corn Shorba (soup), followed by some Crispy Chat and Tandoori Paneer. Mains were the Banarasi Aloo curry (baby potato curry) served with Roti and Naan bread and the Chef’s special - coconut rice, mix veg and paneer gravy with salad, pakoras and picketed onion.
The pickled onion were not “pickled” in the sense that we’d know in AU or even India for that matter. The onions tasted too sweet for pickled onions.
The Chef’s special is all the items placed separately and steamed inside of a banana left enclosure. So the flavours of the banana leaf wafts thru the dish in both smell and taste. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The restaurant has some very intricate and interesting “Aari” work (hand woven using silk thread) all along the walls. Was done very well. My sister runs a business doing “Aari” design for sarees and other traditional women’s clothing, so she thoroughly appreciated the designs that were done on the walls.
The food was definitely delicious and I’d definitely come back next time I’m in MAA. The final bill of A$47 approx for 3 adults for dinner wasn’t bad either.
