The view from my "office"

After visiting many busy, touristy cities in the last few weeks we wanted to escape to a quiet country town. Hallstatt seemed to fit the bill, but too many bus tours have discovered it!

We drove a bit further around the Hallstätter See and found a quiet waterside café for lunch in Obertraun.

From there we could have taken the swan paddle boat or the electric ferry to spend some time on the water.

Nice G&T, early pizza (9:30) in (la Calle del diséñano) the street of disillusion/disappointment. But it wasn’t. Have eaten here twice and was quite good.

I had to be talked into visiting the Blue Grotto as squeezing through that gap wasnt high on my list. Worth it though.

Don't know how he is doing this, probably resting on some sort of frame, anyway it was entertaining and deserved a couple euros for petrol. He would acknowledge your 'tip' by waving his left hand.

Pretty nifty. If you look carefully, his trousers seem to have Velcro tabs. Would suspect he is lying on a frame along his torso and up the right arm which I think is false.

If so, that's what I want to do next year and I'm not sure if I should target the Adriatic or the Greek Isles and whether it's possible to "country hop"?

Another day, another office.

I'm not sure if they still do it, but you can get 30 mins free entry if you say you want to just visit the shop. (You pay the entry fee but its refunded if you return before your 30 mins is up)

We will miss Bad Aussee, the “geographical centre of Austria”, as we are traveling west towards Innsbruck.

One could spend weeks here exploring the little towns, lakes and mountains, but we only have one week.

One of the ladies we’ve friended was next to me and saw I was going to hit my head so she quickly pushed it down. Had no idea who it was at the time. There were heads arms and bodies going everywhere. She had a drink on us last night.

Hallstatt has been on my bucket list for some time. Any hints on places to stay or visit much appreciated. The mind map planning for next year is in full swing. I didn't think I'd be working much this year but having spent nearly three months on a contract away from home I think I deserve a nice holiday.
