I've just received an email about the velocity 10th Birthday sale, and triple points offer:

10th Birthday Sale (ends Midnight 25th November):
Virgin Australia On Sale

Triple Points offer (book 16-25 November 2015 for flights from 1 December 2015 to 30 September 2016):
https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.c...lepointssale/index.html?promo_code=VATPLNOV15

I'd like to ask for some advice about my existing booking, PER-MEL 23rd-29th December 2015. I booked Flexi (with 10% discount code) as it wasn't that much more than saver (which will get my Silver with another 6 months of travel to possibly get to Gold), and I've upgraded both legs to Business using points.

Although I am travelling in the promotion period, I made made the booking before the triple points promo started. By my calculations with the triple-points offer, I'd pretty much break-even for the upgrade with the points earn on the flexi + triple points + amex card points used for payment!

So.... is it worth me cancelling my booking and re-booking with this promotion, or would that likely end up in a big mess :/ ? Any advice on how to go about this without ending up in trouble would be appreciated (I know it's far too easy for something to go wrong when making changes to a booking, particularly one with a points-upgrade attached).

What costs would I incur - just the change fee? Is the change fee worth the triple points? I'd guess it probably is.

Thanks!

You would need to fully cancel ( including your upgrades and be hit with any fees on the fare ) and make a NEW booking and then go thru the whole upgrade process ( if any seats)

Thanks - if it involes a full-cancellation rather than a change then I'll double-check the refund policy on my flexi+points-upgrade tonight - if it doesn't cost too much, maybe I'll just make another full booking first (to ensure I get the flexi+points-upgrade combo), and then fully cancel the original booking afterwards

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I hadn't received the email but thanks for heads-up. I was waiting for it so I can book a planned trip to LAX in Feb.
Am I right in thinking there was no follow-up double-SC offer in 2014?

I keep getting an error message - "Our system has experienced a technical difficulty. Please try again later or contact us"

There's scheduled system maintenance apparently.

I don't believe for a second that there is anything 'scheduled' about this maintenance :p. The site has been falling-over all week, and particularly this morning. 'Emergency' maintenance would be more appropriate I'd bet.

"Scheduled maintenance" is never ever planned for regular business hours, it would normally occur on weekends is the early morning hours. This outage would have to be unplanned and unscheduled.

Their words, not mine: velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Scheduled-maintenance/ (I can't add links, even to airline sites. Odd rule).

Thanks, I hadn't got this email yet, but I've registered. I am looking to potentially book in a US trip mid next year, in addition to a few domestics, so this should do nicely, hopefully!

Now... how about that J upgrade (award) seat availability transpac..?

Edit: interesting -- the J award seats which weren't there last week are back... I should strike while the iron's hot, no?

Although the T&Cs say not compatible with any other offer, does anyone have any past experience of combining the triple points promo with an x% off code?

Can't see any reason why not. Any revenue booking should be eligible.

A lil confused with this statement in the t&c:
Two bonus Velocity Points will be earned in addition to each base Velocity Point ordinarily earned and will be applied to base Velocity Points only

How many points would one earn if the cost of the ticket is $500 (Mel-Per)?

You will earn 2,500 base points, 5,000 bonus points and x number of status bonus points applied to base points only.

Tempting.... that's a lot of points!

I also have flexi flights booked to Perth in Dec & have used my platinum upgrades. I'm debating whether to cancel and rebook- there are still reward seat available (plus I'd release mine) & the tickets are a similar price... but mine are already on double points as I bought them during the August promo.

They were paid for with my husband's credit card- so I guess they'd need to be credited back to that? So that might just push it into the too difficult basket, he would think it ridiculous :-(

decisions, decisions!

I'm in the same PDog. Call to confirm on award upgrade availability and cancel my tickets, rebook and reapply the comp upgrades. The refund is via Travel Bank and the rebooking process via this is quite easy. I believe there is an option to have the fund credited back to the credit card but there is a fees involved.

If the calculation is right, an extra 10K (2 pax) for the extra 15 minutes time is all worth it :)

I cancelled my booking with credit to travel bank (back to card was an extra $80). I got hit with $35 for cancelling my points-upgrade, but that was ok. However when I went to make my new booking, the site refused to process it as it said it found an existing 'duplicate' booking (even though it was cancelled, and showed as cancelled). So my new booking had to be made via the call-centre.

Forgot to mention that I had the same issue last night, whereby the site gave me an error (duplicate booking detected). Call centre offered to make the booking on my behalf (without any charges) but they can't apply the promo code to the booking. Left it as is, tried booking 10 minutes later and it went through. Obviously there is a delay within Virgin booking system.
