I reckon it was meant to be a joke. Virgin does this. We had to quickly accelerate just before landing as a sudden squall hit the tarmac. Up and circling. Pilot came on and said 'sorry, we were just about to land at the wrong airport'.

Indeed, quite apart from not making bomb jokes, while us frequent flyers might like the jokes and it can take the tension out of the chaos and delays, there are some first-time, nervous or stressed flyers who won't find them funny at all.

Delayed from 450pm to 1030pm! That’s crazy!

Unplanned aircraft maintenance?

An issue with the plane. The hangar was full so they had to get approval to do the maintenance outside. Eventually they got it, then it had to be checked, signed off, etc.
