"The Business" on Coast to Coast - Amenity Kits?

Re: VA Business class

Everyone got them without asking the other night on a delayed east - west flight. As it turned out, didn't even crack the plastic bag and left it behind.

And a big shout out for the chocolate raspberry brownie with creme fraiche. Nice FA brought me three serves. Would be open to brownie doggie bags instead of more miniature bottles of moisturiser. Could munch on them in car to hotel.

O/T: your name always makes me smile!

Re: VA Business class

I received a kit on the PER-SYD redeye last month. Was exactly as Sludge321 described.

Re: VA Business class

Flew PER-SYD on the red eye (10.55pm departure) on Jan 25th. It was on a 737 (originally A330, but subbed out a couple days before). We still got the Mandarin Duck amenity kid, but I didn't really care either way as I was just looking for a good rest. First world problems...

Re: VA Business class

Update from flight on Monday SYD-PER in J. Have to say that I can not fault anything with the service or product. I have heard of little complaints here and there but honestly I think that's some people just complaining for the sake of it. Hands down the best domestic seat I have been in. Very very comfy. Screen size great and personal space and privacy is amazing. I did get an amenity kit but did have to ask. The service was great and I can't wait to fly again.

Doing red eye PER-SYD tomorrow night in J so looking forward to the turn down service and sleep and also using the new VA Terminal. (Would be amazing if VA offered Pjs for red eye flights for J. Thats the next step I hope)

Also what are people thoughts on J also offering foot slippers during all flights. I know turbulence can be rough but come on, seriously guys learn to p** straight and in the bowl!

Also FYI - totally off topic but hired the Audi Q7 from Hertz whilst in Perth. August 2015 Quattro is amazing. I couldn't stop driving it and was amazing for anyone looking for a big car to hire whilst away. definitely worth the extra $$ for a great weeks drive.

The turn down service on the redeye is good, and the bed is very comfortable. But don't count on getting a long sleep as the PER-SYD flight is just too short. I only managed a couple of hours as I was woken for landing ~45 minutes out of SYD at 5.15am local Sydney time (2.15am in Perth).

Agreed – brilliant product. Flights are just too short to really enjoy it. Can't wait to take it to LA.

Re: VA Business class

I was provided with an amenity kit on my recent PER-MEL red-eye flight, and also on the return MEL-PER evening flight over the Australia Day long weekend. Fantastic product and service. For the red-eye they even laid down a mattress topper and dooner - just a shame that because of the strong winds, the PER-MEL flight ended up being under 3 hours long which meant not too much sleep was had.

This appears to be the same amenity kit offered in PE for long haul flights. While still a great amenity kit would be cool if they gave out the long haul business one. But its probably overkill, I just like it a lot.

Re: VA Business class

I had my first taste last week. Overall, in one word, I was disappointed.

Using more words hehe :

Pro's
- New/fresh/clean

Con's
- Only 1 bored looking lady looking after checkin (she was great though!). All the computer checkin kiosks were surrounded by clouds of people wondering how to make it all work. Is this one lady now the 'premium' check-in agent? There were signs up indicating that she was it ... standard check-in didn't appear to have an agent assisted option at all.
- The lounge is certainly huge! In the same vein as MEL but not as nice as its pretty much just one big space.. thats fine and better than the mingy old one, but still nothing doing catering wise. I enjoyed the pancake machine, but my mrs went hungry - she not really into sandwiches.

Agree totally with this. Was there on Tuesday. Pretty much a self service terminal.

Hi,

I have received the Mandarina Duck amenity kit twice now, since the intro of "The Business". I have previously (about 6 times) received the old kit (which I believe is the same as the longhaul J, but cant confirm as I've never flown VA longhaul).

The new kit is small, and not as good as the other kit, but better than nothing!

I'm intrigued – does anyone have pics of the long-haul J kit?

Not sure if this is the long-haul J kit, but this was one I was provided with BNE-PER on a daytime 737 flight around June/July time last year (didn't ask for it - was offered. Never been offered one before or since on a daytime flight!):

Interesting. Seems pretty similar, but with black rather than grey. I like the addition of tissues!

With the old kits as shown above the dark grey was for males and the light one was for females.

Same bag but long haul international had a few more items for example a shaving kit in the male long haul kit.

The amenity kits domestically and for short haul international are now available on request and don't get proactively offered unless you are on a night flight.

The latest long haul international ones are quite nice and this AusBT article shows them off Virgin Australia's new Mandarina Duck amenity kits with REN skincare - Australian Business Traveller

I fly the MEL-PER a lot on VA in J and the amenity kits on the old 2-2-2 A330 config was the long haul J one (I've never received a shaving kit in my pack for AU-LAX flights on VA in J?). The one in the photos above are the same as the ladies old long haul kit. I'm not much a fan of the new kits myself as I don't like REN stuff (with the exception of their amazing shampoo, just for the smell).

I can't understand why they don't use Australian brands for both the bag (I can think of a few potential suppliers) and the skincare (we have some great ones).

Yeah the bags themselves were the same.

Weird you didn't get the shaving kit enclosed. Must of had the wrong stock loaded.

They had Grown Organics in the kits up until REN. I'm a fan of some of the Grown products (the moisturiser and hand wash mainly) but don't rate their other products. The lip balm was all kinds of awful and useless.
