Dear QANTAS,

I hear you want us frequent travellers to be able to have our carry on weigh in at 7kg’s or less in a correctly sized bag, even if we plan to be away for a week or more.

Challenge accepted

So, with all the BS at the gate lately I decided to set myself a real challenge, I wanted a new bag, it had to be top quality with a very good warranty, and suitable to my style of business travel. After considering almost every bag maker out there, without consideration to price, I eventually settled on the Victorinox Werks 20 Spinner which weighed in at 2.8kg’s.

Traditional travel for me is that I am away for a week at a time, often multiple cities spending the day in business meetings and workshops, after 20 years of travel I have been able to work my essential items out that allow me to cover all facets such as Gym, Business and social, and in fact if I can make this last a week it can then obviously go into 2weeks etc.

There are a few caveats, I pack my headphones in my laptop case, I always wear my suit jacket, if I need and extra set of trousers or Another business shirt for whatever reading it can go in my laptop/brief/carryall. The laptop bag also takes my computer, iPad, cables, book to read, notepad and pens and also still comes in under 7kg’s

See below for an image diary of how I get there.

 Was there nothing heavier? :p:p:p:p:p:p

To be fair I get through the 1.7KG Samsonite 72 hour 20" spinners at a rate of one a year, the current one is on the verge of destruction after two months and four long haul returns to Europe. The extending handles just aren't strong enough. It is difficult getting the balance right.

I am HLO so QF and VA's hardening stance on the 7KG is a pain. Just makes me more determined to avoid them - I only tend to fly domestically these days in order to pick up an international connection.

If you haven't already have a look at the ScotteVest travel clothing, I can usually pack an extra 2 or 3 KG into the pockets.

@TonyHancock I always get a laugh with your short humour.

For the OP whilst I think your efforts are commendable however you are using the QF x2 (7kg) carry on rule which is 100% allowable but not with VA, VA total carry on is 7kg. I also do not subscribe to shoving stuff is suit jacket and pants pockets.

I prefer to travel with x1 bag only that includes the laptop and other peripherals.

You do realise that if you wore jockeys instead of boxers you would probably save a few grams? :D

Oh and why do you need two pairs of shoes? A pair of black runners will do for all occasions.

Maybe the boxers are silk so most likely lighter than jocks. I digress.:D

It has been considered in the past, just not sure it would do down all that well with some of my clients.

Nope, they're clearly cloth, so heavier and harder to dry.

I prefer the silk because of their ease of washing and drying, and light weight.

I take your point, I did not even take a close look at the pics of another bloke's unmentionables, just not my thing. :D:D

So, who do you choose? Jetstar or Tiger?
Do they fly to LHR? :p

Come now. Woodborer was clearly referring to the domestic sectors as mentioned! (and I note TH chose not to answer ... JQ or TT) :D

I couldn't resist and possibly the greatest number of quoted messages in one post. A thread reduced to the lowest common denominators ... humour and jockey shorts! :D ;) What else does one need in life!

And to keep it on track, I agree with @TonyHancock's summing up of Samsonite and I agree with @Matt_01 about not stuffing pockets full as I prefer to be comfortable in flight with nothing in my pockets except some cash and cards. I can't say whether I do or do not agree with @Hvr as I wear jocks not boxers and I've never seen silk jocks (not saying they don't exist, just that I haven't seen them) and in my line of work, I'm also not entirely sure how silk goes with arc flash (although I'm thinking Mr Hancock may be able to comment) and the way rumours work in PNG, I'm not entirely sure I'd want the haus meri's telling everyone I wore silk jocks! o_O

To clarify I am trying to avoid VA and QF domestically by adjusting my international travel to eliminate domestic connections. The 7KG enforcement is just another annoyance for me, on top of the utterly dreadful transfer experience in SYD.

The pocket stuffing is only to bypass the weigh ins at the gate. It all goes back into the carry on when boarded. (Yes I am very naughty!!!). Can't help you with the arc flash and silk combo. if only munitalP was here. :D:D:D

I'm now just waiting for the AFF fashion parade of silk undies! The ultimate FFer accessory!

EDIT: I just Googled silk jocks and they do make them, but I've changed my mind ... I'm definitely NOT attending that fashion parade!
