Hi All

I would probably plan to take another airline.

TG's business class product is pretty much obsolete now - angled lie-flats. Cabin crew service is good (attentive), but limited by the food which is pretty much economy class served on china, with metal cutlery. The amenity kit is poor. Lounges in SYD are OK (air new zelanad, or you can use Singapore Airlines), but the lounges in Bangkok are mediocre - the best is the lounge on Concourse D which is opposite the spa and is a dedicated 'business class only' lounge (not supposed to be available to star gold).

IFE is ok.

MEL_Traveller sums TG up very well. I did SYD-BKK on TG in J last year and I wouldn't do it again. The food is just Y food on plates and on my flight it was handled very poorly. The FAs took an order for main course soon after seat belts off and then rolled their trolley down the aisle serving a canapé and then a starter followed by main and dessert in very quick succession; they got all of this done in under 45 minutes! Then they cleared up and, less than 90 minutes after V1, closed every window shade, turned off all the lights and disappeared down the back. At this time it was still 11.30am in SYD/7.30am in BKK. I wouldn't mind sitting in the dark so much except my IFE froze, got going again briefly after several reboots by the CSM, then froze again for the rest of the flight.

While certainly a very weak business class compared to most, it is still far superior to economy, especially for a day time flight. Try and get a seat in the bubble upstairs by the window. Ask for as many drinks as possible and that should numb the pain of having to fly a sub standard business class. ðŸ

oo!! TG business class has just gone up in my estimation! (both of those things I see as a huge positive for business class!!) :)

oh wait - just you can't then go to sleep on the angled beds... :(

Angled beds are OK for day flights, big no no for overnight though.

Not if you you need to sleep. Lots of people have either had a big night before, or need to go out for a big night on arrival.

The option for passengers to get a good sleep should be there these days in business class.

It's a glorified economy IMO.

Agreed with MEL

Would not pay full price for it - LM excepted

And, avoid upper cabin if you have a large carry on. There is no room. You have to leave it downstairs to enjoy the relative peace upstairs.

Quite a few notches below QF, let alone SQ

The lower deck is certainly more enjoyable - high ceilings, ultra wide aisles, very quiet cabin with virtually no foot traffic (and none if you snag rows 22/23), no issues with the floor flexing, plenty of places to store cabin bags (although for the upper deck you should be able to store bags in the closet immediately to the left of the stairwell at the top... but the space is tiny and crowded).

It all depends on the price. Not sure how much TG J cost compared to QF (the only other option for direct flight) but if its significantly cheaper then I would go for TG. Can't say I was very impressed by QF's product to BKK and I don't think they use the new business suites on that route yet.

For a random date in August (out 24/8 return 31/8) QF/EK is asking ~$500 more than TG.

For random dates in October, TG is charging ~$800 more than QF.

QF would be the clear winner for the latter.

(prices confirmed on QF and TG websites)

Its okay. Certainly better than Y but along with MH one of the worst Asian J products. Theres lots and lots of food - its ok quality. IFE was fine. Service fine but not overly warm.
i dont think many people pay for it which is why its so readily available for awards.
If you can get F its a completely different experience- its wonderful.

Forgot about the EK option. $500 extra for return ticket on EK metal is fair and reflects the difference in quality.

I'm surprised to see QF J so much cheaper then TG on some dates considering they only operate one daily flight.

to be fair that's a 'business saver' with Qantas. So I'm guessing far less flexible than even the cheap TG business class.

How does the 773 J product compare to J on the 747? I.e. the MEL option.

take all the bad bits of the 747 and add 2-3-2 seating on a noisy 777 :(

There's no advantage unless flying a route with the 'new' 77W with full flats.

There's theoretically supposed to be a couple different versions of TG's angled beds... I flown both and couldn't tell them apart.

If you can get a 772 I actually really like the TG J seats for day flights. Its 2-2-2 with very wide aisles and feels extremely spacious. Theres a nice sense of calm in the cabin. Much better than the 773.

What are the fully flat beds like?
