Thai Airways Standby Upgrade - room to move?

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well. New poster here. My wife and I have booked SYD -> BKK -> FRA on 18/DEC on Economy. Online, I see that TG has "Standby Upgrade" from Economy to Business for 40K THB for BKK -> FRA. I wanted to ask if anyone's aware if this number can change closer to the date, based on Flight Loads? I suppose the question I'm asking is, "Closer to the day of travel, if there are still seats available in Business, is there any appetite for Thai Airways to lower the upgrade fee from 40K THB to something lower? ChatGPT seems to say yes, but AI can be (and sometimes is very much) wrong

there's a reddit thread from about 4 months ago, someone claims they did syd/bkk for 20k thb (standby says 32k thb) - so maybe?
