Taxi charges (and surcharges)

Our last two Sydney taxis have been hybrid Toyota Camrys and have been well driven. I think the drivers here have lifted their game with clean vehicles and drivers not using their mobile phones.

Love the outcome of that story... the entire organisation responsible should just be shut down. Just ridiculous.

Ahh... taxi charges.

I never check the difference between what comes up on the meter and what I pay on the credit card. It's always around a few dollars different and I don't both checking, but really, they could put any amount into the machine. I'm going to start taking receipts.

Also $3 to charge a $20 fare is just ludicrous. Almost as bad as a $7.70 CC fee on a $60 transaction (a la airlines)...

Has Uber been made legit in NSW with a licence from the NSW government?
Lyft in Los Angeles has been allowed to do pick ups at LAX.

Yes, Uber has been legal in NSW since late last year and the holders of NSW taxi plates are to receive some compensation ($250M is the number I have in my head - could be wrong) to be funded by a surcharge ($1 I think) on taxi and Uber fares.

Uber can now pickup at LAX as well as Lyft. A friend of mine in LA caught his first airport Uber this morning.

Thanks for that Homer. We are in Sydney for short stays so I hadn't bothered to ask.

You're welcome. It's not clear to me whether Uber is now legal for pickups at SYD airport however. But I don't want to take this thread off topic. :)

Consider yourself very very lucky! It is certainly the exception to the rule.

Actually I am pretty lucky when it comes to Sydney taxis. I think we missed a rear ender accident on Parramatta Road by at least 25mm. We do use a limo service for pick ups and returns to the Sydney airport.
