Hi all,

First post ever, hope it's not a dumb one. Love the site and all the info here!

I am thinking of booking 2 x business class redemptions on Malaysian Airlines for me and the better half - Bris-Lond Return (Business Class). I have plenty of Westpac Altitude points I can transfer, but before I do, can anyone tell me how much I will need to pay in fees, taxes and surcharges for the two of us??? I've tried a dummy booking on the web site, but I can't get past the selecting flights screen, as I don't yet have enough points in my Enrich account.

Also, when doing an actual Enrich booking, does the web site allow you to choose your seats?

Any help from you experienced frequent flyers would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to AFF, hope you will learn lot's of info from the site, and maybe even contribute your own experiences.

For MH, you can see taxes and surcharges when doing a commercial booking via regular MH website. What you see there, is what you will be charged when doing an Enrich booking. They will be pricey if coming out of LHR due to UK air passenger duties, and it may well be cheaper to pay for separate flight (or chunnel train) and fly out of one of of MH's other destinations, if you have an interest in visiting them (from memory they are Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Istanbul).

You can choose seats on website when making a booking (I think - if not you can call MH to allocate).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

To LHR

Surcharges: AUD 786.20
Taxes: AUD 511.60
To Paris

Surcharges: AUD 786.20
Taxes: AUD 270.04

To Paris

Surcharges:AUD 786.20
Taxes:AUD 270.04

And for reference these charges (Paris) also apply for travel into London and out of Paris. The charges for the sectors into Europe don't vary by destination , just the charges back from Europe.

The taxes are pretty heavy but it's made up for with redemption rates that are probably one of the best around where it costs 102000 miles for a return ticket per person. So you'll need double that amount in Westpac Altitude points per person when transferring them over to your Enrich account.

I've booked First and Business on MH using points... You can select seats on-line at time of booking. Not sure about selecting seats post-booking, as the Manage My Booking feature was out of action for months, but it may now be working.

The taxes to fly out of London was pretty eye-watering (there were four of us though) - was significantly less expensive to fly into or out of Paris if this is practical for you. I'd also recommend the day flight to KL (not a completely flatbed on these aircraft) and then overnight from KL which is the new A380.

Enjoy the satay sticks...

Agree totally. The best combination of flights is the day flight to KUL (on an A330-300) connecting with the overnight flight to LHR or CDG (on the A380). Same with the return - leaving LHR or CDG around midday (on the A380) to arrive in KUL the next morning and connecting with the day flight to SYD (again on an A330-300).
Seat selection is available at time of booking. You are able to change seats online using the Manage My Booking function on their website. However, if you make any changes via the phone (e.g. meal requests), it stops you from making any further changes to the booking online. Despite that, seat allocation changes can simply be made by calling them (on 132627).

Just booked 2 of us one way BNE-LHR using Enrich points. Great value at 51000 points and $450 surcharges/taxes each. Had no problem selecting seats 7A/7B on the A380 during the booking process. This seems to be in a smaller cabin at the front. Anyone experienced seats in this section? The A330 (angled flat bed) flight out of BNE is overnight unfortunately so probably not the best for sleeping and the A380 KUL-LHR is a daytime flight. Anyway I like arriving in London in the afternoon... better for beating jetlag.

I love the front mini cabin on the upper deck of the A380. 7AC and 7HK are my favourite seats on the MH A380 in J. It's quiet, has easier access to the massive lavatories and is usually served first.
Enjoy your trip!

Flew CDG-KUL last month in the front cabin - 6A. Only half full and a great experience. Food was excellent. CDG does not have dual jet bridge so you board on the lower level and walk upstairs which makes the front cabin very handy.

Nice pic, biba. 6A and 6K are great seats because you don't have a seat in front of you that restricts your feet in the flat position. The only thing about that row is that you can't select 2 seats together at the time of booking because 1 of the pair is reserved for passengers who need assistance and they won't get released even if you call them up.
