g'day,

about 8am this morning the 19th of June i was driving (or sitting in traffic) through Albion in Brisbane. i watched and interesting aircraft take off over the gateway bridge and then make a right hand turn to the north.

it was a military aircraft with 4 engines and one of those big radar arrays on the top.

looked cool and different, something i don't see every day.

obviously here for the military exercises.

did any one else see it? get a closer look? get any pics? tell us more about the plane?

cheers

If so, might have been over here for "Operation Talisman Sabre"

There are a couple of KC10s and some AWACs aircraft here for the exercise and staging out of Brisbane, must not like the beer at Amberley

saw it, or another very similar this morning. looks cool

Yep, think I saw it too. Was pretty high when I saw it, but with the hump on the back, it stood out.

Wish I had've been closer to it (and it had've been lower!)

my office is in newstead and they seem to blast off around 8-9am. they take off over the gateway and head up over the city to fly north.

i'll bet they are there tomorrow too.

Yeah, It was about 8:45 this morning when I saw it. Hope it's back tomorrow!! :)

The E-3 will be around for three weeks, with numerous KC10s/KC135's supporting the operation, some in BNE and some at Rocky. The E3 is the same one that was at Avalon this year.

Jun-Jul every year there are combined military "games" around ROK
also the NT.A mate was trying to get hotel in Bne last weekend and had a great deal of trouble..apparently lots of US sailors also in town on R&R before heading north

This one is every two years, some info compliments of the ADF:

Current planning shows indicative Australian forces likely to participate are 20 ships, 25 aircraft and 7500 personnel. Indicative US forces likely to take part are 10 ships (including a carrier Battle Group), 100 aircraft and 20,000 personnel. Personnel and aircraft numbers include those embarked in ships, however, the number of personnel involved in Talisman Saber 2007 will fluctuate according to operational requirements throughout the exercise.

Believe it was during a similar exercise many years ago that the carrier group were a little surprised to see an oberon class sub surface near the carrier, not sure the same result can be expected with a colins class! No doubt the next exercise might see the wedgetail participating for the first time if the first aircraft is finalised as scheduled in March 09.

Gazing across the top of my wine glass in the Townsville QP just now there is a KC135 and about 6 - 8 F18's belonging to a Mr Bush from overseas.

I was previously driving past the active runway on Ingham Road and was lucky enough to be absolutely deafened by 4 F18's in formation takeoff - very impressive.

the airport in newcastle is great for seeing military jets in action too if you ever get down that way
