Im a gold virgin australia FF.

Id like to stay loyal to a good FF programme and airline but it seems to me that:

1.) It is cheaper to book a Syd-HKg-Syd flight via Virgin Atlantic than via Virgin Australia

2.) If booked via Virgin Australia, i will have NO lounge access on the return leg, in HKG (but will have access to Air New Zeland's Koru lounge on the Syd- HKG flight)

3.) Whereas if booked via Virgin Atlantic, my Gold FF will allow me to use the Virgin Clubhouse there.

The whole thing is just complicated and quite frankly absurd... Looks like ill book two single flights, one with Virgin Australia and the return with Virgin Atlantic!

If you booked through Virgin and flying with Virgin Atlantic as a Gold you should get Clubhouse lounge access in Hong Kong, see the lounge terms.

yeah thats right, thats what i thought i said already. In order to get lounge access on both sides, i should fly there with Virgin Australia and fly back with Virgin Atlantic?!

As a gold, Fly VS and you will have access to the NZ lounge in Sydney and club in HK even if it's booked via DJ

If you book through Virgin Australia for a direct flight to Hong Kong both legs are on Virgin Atlantic metal, so not sure what you mean by saying fly there with Virgin Australia and back with Virgin Atlantic. Looks like your main issue is price so booking both legs through Virgin Atlantic still get you lounge access in Sydney and Hong Kong. The main thing you will miss booking through Virgin Atlantic is 75% gold bonus points earn, you may also get a lower base point earn if booked throuh Virgin Atlantic depending on fare class.

Ah right, i didn't realise that booking through V Australia is still on an Atlantic flight.

i havent decided yet, was gonna burn up some frequent flyer points and considering getting a reward ticket of sorts (enough miles with either Velocity or Flying Club)

If you are thinking of flying Y to HKG with Virgin Atlantic...don't. I did it once and never again! It is horrible in economy, tiny seats, horrible food and very painful! If you can manage Premium or Upper Class then do it with your Flying Club miles

I did not get a chance to walk around the aircraft last month to have a look at economy. I wasn't too impressed with the Upper Class product or service anyway and the main reason I flew it is that it is easy to earn the miles via car hire and Hilton hotel stays.
