I've done a search but can't find anything definitive on this subject however, I'm travelling to Sydney on Saturday for the long weekend and am looking for a ticket that will provide me with domestic terminal access and through the weekend be able to use buses/trains/ferries etc?

I had a look on Cityrail's website and it seems a MyMulti 7 day may be suitable - $44 for the week, I'm assuming this includes the Airtrain levies?

To add to the confusion, I read on some blog that there is a 7 day green pass that is only $18? I'm confused and am hoping someone more experienced with Sydney travel can assist please... (I don't want to catch the 400 bus and transfer to a train either) basically want to get off the plane and head straight to Circular Quay and then throughout the weekend if I want to duck over to Manly I can get on a ferry etc

You will need to buy a gate pass in addition to the mymulti 1 7 day :

I've got a $2.50 Pensioner Excursion / MyMulti Tickets.
How much is a Gate Pass to use Airport Link's International and Domestic Terminal Stations?

Gate Pass TypeAirport Link International and Domestic Terminal Station Gate Pass
Adult Single$12.30 AUD
Adult Return$24.60 AUD
Concession Single$9.60 AUD
Concession Return$14.50 AUD
Adult Weekly$20.00 AUD
Concession Weekly$17.00 AUD

Effectively its $44 + $20 keeping in mind the rail limits as far as stations you can go to:

Bounded by Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Croydon, Canterbury, Bardwell Park, Rockdale CityRail stations and unlimited government and private bus, light rail and government ferry travel.

Generally speaking the Airport stations are excluded from MyMulti tickets. As markis posted you can get a seperate Gate Pass for use a tthe airport stations, but that will be on top of the MyMulti pass. The Infoline site mentions it here:

Tickets to airport stations are available from all CityRail stations. Airport stations are managed by Airport Link who charge for a Gate Pass at both Domestic Terminal Station and International Terminal Station in addition to the normal MyZone fare. The Gate Pass fee is included in MyTrain tickets where an Airport Link station is the origin or destination but customers travelling on MyMulti or excursion tickets must purchase a Gate Pass at the station. Concession Gate Passes are available.

The transport Infoline website is better than the cityrail site for such things: 131500 Transport Infoline - Home , and yes for a weeks stay the MyMulti is the way to go.

ouch $69 ... sure it's cheaper than a taxi but they don't miss you!

thanks for your inputs guys, appreciate it.

i would just take the airport line and then buy tickets as needed throughout the weekend unless you are doing some kind of mileage run on public transport! ;)

It should be $64, $44 +$20 (weekly gate pass).

It might be worth working out how much travel you might do on ferries and such and how many times you want to go to the airport.

For example, a weekly airport to city train ticket is $47 including the gate pass. If you only go to manly once ($14.40 rtn) and don't use buses it a little bit cheaper.

Obviously, if you're going to use heaps of ferries and buses a train only ticket is pointless.

yeah i think this is the go.... crazy that the public transport ticket is more expensive than the jetstar flight !

Are you planning to go to the airport multiple times? If it is only on arrival and departure you don't need a weekly gate pass. You can get away with a $5 terminal transfer ticket and a $12 gate pass when leaving, plus a mymulti1

The trains also have off-peak return fares for holidays and weekends.

So you could be up for
2x $15.90 ($31.80) getting to and from the airport.
$2.50 on Sunday.
Plus whatever else on Saturday and Monday.

I use a Mybus1 Travelten ticket for any buses around city and between kings cross/darlinghurst and the city/central station. These are pretty easy to pick up and the last one I got was $16. This allows 10 trips of 1 to 2 sections.in theory you could travel further by revalidating the ticket.

+1 travelten is a good option for buses as you can keep the unused trips for next time

Very sneaky Medhead. Almost certainly against the rules, but impossible to police. I have paid for gate passes (single, return or weekly) on a large number of occasions, as I always take the train to the airport and always have a MyMulti ticket. I did not even know that terminal transfer tickets existed. Will try it next time.

I think it pushes the boundaries, but is still within the rules. The terminal transfer allows you to pass the gate at both terminals and travel on the train. The mymulti allows you to travel on the trains within certain areas on the whole network. So you "legally" go through the gate and you then "legally" travel on a train using your standard cityrail ticket. This is a consequence of airportlink and cityrail being 2 separate entities. Basically there is nothing that says you have to use a service (terminal transfer) after you've paid for it.

Now in terms of dodgy I did once use a terminal transfer but only had a valid train ticket for travel from Mascot to central. My heart was racing for those 3 minutes between Domestic and Mascot. :D
