Sydney airport check-in closes 2 hours before flight?

Booking says check in and bag drop closes 2 hours before the flight (NZ102, departing 9:55am closes at 7:55am). This seems weird as while they usually suggest getting to the airport early, check in usually closes 1 hour or perhaps 90 minutes before departure. Air NZ phone rep thought it should be 1 hour.

Anyone have insight/know whether it’s actually 2 hours before?

Those attachments refer to what the airlines/some random website think is the optimal/recommended time, which is not the actual check-in closing time.

A quick google search says that Air NZ international flights close check-in 90 or 120 minutes before departure

As someone who doesn't get to the airport too early, I like SQ's policy of check-in closing 40 min before the flight (not that I would leave it *that* close).

Yeah, all my NZ e-tickets departing SYD say check-in closes 120 minutes before departure.

Kinda ridiculous imo.

Check-in is 60mins cut off. I have done this multiple times. The app etc is just a guideline. Afterall you can't have everyone show up at 60mins prior, check them all in and expect to get them through security and boarded to depart on time. But I asked once or twice at check-in and then tested it and I know 60mins is my cut off and I use that on any international Air NZ service. Even the call centre will tell you longer but.. its 60mins. Same as Qantas. Although I've been able to get away with slightly less so I wouldn't fret over 90mins. You've got time. And then if the flight is delayed which seems to be the case lately you can factor in that delay time.

Sometimes you have to take traffic into account so arrive earlier than 90mins but it beats missing the flight altogether.

My experience when travelling a few years ago internationally with QF was a hard cut off at 40 minutes so I used 60 minutes for a buffer. Got a bit close a few times but always got through.

Yes I think it was like 50 mins or so but I generally aim for 60mins. When I'm late I make sure I've checked in online, check-in then go park car, or drop off the rental car afterwards. Cuts it fine but thats just the way it is sometimes. But it's certainly not 2hrs or 90mins for either NZ or QF.
