What's the cheapest route from SYD airport to the darling harbour hotels (Ibis, Novotel, Grand Mercure)?

I am planning to take this route on a Sunday afternoon and again on a monday morning (08:30).

What's traffic like going into the city on a monday morning? Must be bad??

thanks

Chucksta

If you are by yourself with minimal baggage get the train and walk from Wynyard. Cheaper and much faster.

I agree with Batesy about the train, but take the train to Central (not Wynyard), then take the tram from the upper level of Central which goes through China Town, around the back of the Entertainment Centre and has a tram stop directly outside the Novotel at Darling Harbour.

I think from the last time I used the tram the cost was $2 or $2.50. If you continued on the tram it stops right under the Darling Harbour casino, and then through to other nearby suburbs.

Forget the traffic; consider you'll need to queue for ½ hour merely to get a taxi.

Take Batesy's advise and a train ...

(If you MUST catch a taxi, tell the driver to use O'Riorden St)

The taxi fare to Novotel is not too expensive as the route is fairly quick. Make sure you tell the taxi to use O'Riorden St (or you can just tell them to go the Redfern way).
The taxi fare would be around $32

I agree, the Redfern way is probably best, but of course it depends on when and what day.

Sunday afternoon should be fine regardless. Monday morning you'll hit some traffic.

Thanks for the replies. I have used the O'Readen/Redfern route when staying at the Hilton in the city.

Its sad that taxi drivers still try and get you to take the freeway. I have had excuses like, expressway is quicker since O'Reirden is closed for road works... come on...

I actually need to get from the darling harbour hotel to the airport, meet up with family and come back again.

I wonder if its cheaper to get a car service or take a taxi 2 ways.

We are going to have to take a taxi, 4 adults and bags.

thanks

Chucksta

Chucksta,

Car servicve will cost approx $90 each way so much more than a taxi.

$90? My driver charges $70 from City to my suburb and $100 from my suburb to airport. i live twice the distance from airport than I do to the city so I think $90 would be steep unless getting a german built car...

there is no reason you can't tram/train it to the airport. that would certainly be cheaper then a taxi.

For 4 adults returning I'd expect the taxi to be cheaper then the train/tram

Oops:oops:

I checked my amex statement and got the price from there but you're right it was for a 7 series BMW.
