Can anybody advise what type of aircraft does Cathay Pacific fly from Syd to HKG.

Looking at booking a QFF award J seat and when looking at SeatGuru, CX have A330-300 but was wondering if this flies the Syd-HKG and return leg and if so, are they a 3 class aircrafts as they have lie flat seats whereas the A330-300 2 class only has recliner seats in Business class.

Any info on the type of aircraft out of SYD to HKG would be appreciated.

CX mostly operate their new business class in 2-class A330-300 aircraft to SYD. Thee have the herringbone configuration of fully-flat and horizontal beds. See the CX web site for details of their new business class product.

CX flies two types of A330's from SYD-HKG. The first is the 3 class layout, the second is the 2 class layout with their new long haul product.

I don't believe you'll get a "regional" plane from SYD-HKG (with the reclining chairs only), but due to substitutions it is always possible.

Seatguru website states that the Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300
2-Class (330) that out of a total of 18 of these short-haul regional two-class A330 in the Cathay fleet. Only two aircraft in the fleet have been reconfigured with the New Regional Business Class seats. Then, seatguru states that the A330-300 3 class aircraft all have the new business class seats

Could it be that the seatguru website is not up to date with the aircraft type of class from syd-hkg as it differs from the info i've received regarding the 2 class aircraft.

Also, When making a booking thru QFF for an award seat, does the QFF telephone assistant know what class is the aircraft Eg 2 or 3 at the time of booking.

One more thing...
When checking out Cathay Pacific's website for Syd-HKG it states that the aircraft is a 33B. Any ideas what that type is ?

I believe 33B is shorthand for the 330 configured in 2 class new business configuration.

The timetable at the Cathay Site should show you the plane type for your journey, so you should be able to cross reference any flight with the plane type.

Also, they now have 3 planes configured in the new config:
Cathay Pacific - What's Onboard : Our Fleet > Airbus Industrie 330-300

With the herringhome configuration of 2-class with new long haul product - Can you talk with the person in the seat next to you as the layout seems that each seat is isolated from the other with a divider of some sorts which also houses the personal tv (when viewing the online guided tour of the plane at the CX website)

Going J class with hubby and would like to enjoy the experience being able to talk to each other during the flight without shouting over a divider of some sorts.

The seat configuration in 2-class (not new J class product) seems to have seats side by side, but if most of the aircraft out of Syd to HKG for 2-class is the new long haul product for J class I would like to know if I'm going to be able to talk to hubby along the way without sharing my conversation with the rest of the cabin via shouting over the dividers.

Any info would be appreciated on how the herringbone layout works if your travelling with someone.

thanks

I have not seen the new configured A330's but i have seen the layout on the 747's and did not look good for talking.... the QF side by side layout is much better for that. I am sure you can talk but its not that easy.

Since Dot just mentioned top deck, i should point out i was lower deck and sitting in the new F so was not paying all that much attention to the J setup but did take a peek.

I was not aware the also had a foot stool type setup like in F where to people can dine together and talk. But that makes it better, still as a couple i would not pick this layout as my first choice unless you don't want to talk ;)

I've flown in the new herringbone J (on a 747 upper deck) and it would be neigh on impossible to talk to anyone else who is still seated while you are seated. You could get hubby to sit on the footstool to talk to you.;) As for the config of the 330s into SYD - I have no idea, I just know they dont fly the new config into MEL .

Be careful with CX - their definition of 'REGIONAL', just maynot be yours!!!! (up to 8hrs)

they will switch aircraft quite often as well from my experience living in the big noodle.:)

CX don't fly theiur regional J into Sydney.

They do fly it to PER, CNS & BNE.

Syd is mainly served by 2 class A330-300's with Flat beds in business (herringbone).

1 flight is still 3 class, but I believe it goes to 2 class from SEP.

I just flew twice on the new CX layout with mrssimongr. Let's first dispel one myth, unless you have a crackwhore supermodel sized a$$, you are not going to be sitting on the footstool.

It was not easy to talk to mrssimongr but we actually found that wasn't as big deal a deal as we expected. Service was great, food was the best J food we had (mrssimongr wouldnt eat the AA food) and the TV screen was almost too large :)

I referred to the config as the "meerkat express" as all you saw were heads popping up every few minutes as people looked around at what was going on.

It will be a very comfortable and enjoyable flight unless you are a massive larda$$.

If your flying CX maybe you can pick one of those extra small girlfriends up along the way ;)

Now i know why i missed the footstool in J, its so small.
