Hi All,

Am hoping for some of your expert guidance...I am looking to book a flight SYD to HKG return in late Jan. I planned to book QF Y+ on account of my severe allergy to Y, however from spending time on AFF I know that booking a direct flight is not the ideal option!! Have looked at several options using J* Business Max but the prices all seem to be insane at that time of year. Any suggestions for a route that will maximise SCs? Am looking at fully $$ and current price of QF Y+ return is about $2000 so anything around that price is ideal.

Thanks in anticipation!

Maybe look at Air Pacific SYD-NAN-HKG in J (with 2 seperate bookings SYD-NAN-SYD and NAN-HKG-NAN) probably need to overnight though..

Do FJ have Y+? Direct SYD-HKG is the only sector offering it. Outside that it's J.

A good suggestion, you can get connecting flights intra-aus to add SCs but not cost. eg. BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN at same cost SYD-NAN.

Otherwise you're probably looking at JQ J to SIN or Japan and then a cheapie from there (not attractive).

How will the SCs help? What is your current status, what are you trying to achieve? Is the extra routing worth it?

To HKG you could also look at CX (earn SCs) or Virgin Atlantic (credit to Velocity) in Y+.

Given that end of Jan13 to Hong Kong is currently in a Y+ sale period for just over $2000 and earning 120SCs. I don't think thats actually a bad deal for what will be a direct flight. I think it might also be the last few days of the sale too?

The QF sale ends today.
I picked up flights from CBR-SYD-NRT-CTS in Jan 2013 and got a great deal;)

Do you think we can convince mrs c of the need for a Japan ski field dinner?
Youngest delinquent is off to boarding school so I only need to book a house sitter !

PE is poor value for SC really - best to try and push for J or do a CX J Run Ex-TPE once you get here :) :)

Best deal would be to look at JASAs SYD-PER-HKG.

I wouldn't have thought SYD-TPE in economy and then TPE-HKG in business would be good value. If destination was anything other than HKG then it could be an option.

Of course we can!
And if she's not a skier there's still lots to do.
The food is not to be missed and as for the snow - well, it's absolutely amazing with no lift lines and virtually no one on the slopes.

Was thinking more along the lines of SYD-HKG PE QF then do a status run ex-TPE CX J

And how would you get to TPE?

The OP is looking to get to HKG and the price they were after is around $2,000. The premium economy to HKG is going to be $2,000 alone and then they would need to fly around in circles not really going anywhere.

Points redemption one-way? Then buy the return, although that assumes you will return to the region again within a year. There are also other good runs to be had, eg TPE-HKG-SIN in J can be had for about A$600. If they still run the HKG-BKK-SIN service that would add more SCs on too.

You can no longer do the east coast run to NAN for the same price as direct.

Another idea might be LAN J to New Zealand, then FJ AKL-NAN-HKG - worth considering.

The OP wants to maximize SC, seems perfectly reasonable to suggest a TPE run...being in HKG presents the opportunity to get SCs at some of the cheapest rates around. Others have given suggestions for minimizing cost to get there. if the price is such a big deal fly Y to HKG and use the saving for the J run!

Surprised to hear from you complaining about flying in circles this is AFF after all!!!
