I'm a platinum VFF and I'm looking to book a business class ticket to Singapore in the next couple of months.

I'm not too concerned about accruing eligible flight sectors on VA to requalify as platinum so I'm just tossing up as to whether to book directly with SQ and use my VA FF number or book on the VA site for a code-share SQ flight.

Will there be any difference to the points & status credits earned between the two options?

I just finished a trip trip SYD->SIN->SYD (2 adults, 1 child + infant)

I ended up booking with SIA because it was significantly cheaper than taking the same booking through virgin on their code share. Also, as I was travelling with infant and child, it was important to get the basinet. As far as I know you can only online confirm seats with SIA direct. I just used my families VFF numbers on the bookings, and checked again at check-in each way. All miles+sc were awared including family pass-through. You do not get the tier bonuses.

If I had booked the codeshare flight via VA I *think* I would've got the SC tier bonus.

If I had used KF instead of VA, then I would not have been able to get the family pooling, but I would've got the KF tier bonuses.

hey cssaus, going by your profile it seems u are VA WP, this means that on a VA ticket you get 100% more points. SC will remain the same. VA ticket will also give you the eligible sector, not sure if u need these though.

safe travel!!

If you book with VA using SQ metal, I have seen this for myself, you cannot guarantee to any degree at all, seat selection.
At least with booking on SQ, on the upper (higher) fare level, you can have a pick of your own seat.
If seat selection is important to you that is.
Another point, is that do you get Silver Kris lounge entry booking on the VA website?
Edit: Though, er, flying business class, I guess you would get Silver Kris lounge entry.

If you book via VA, get the SIA booking number and you can phone to select your seat.

I'm don't know if you can book the cook with a VA booking.
