Friend wants to fly to SGN and back. Out 10 Dec, back 24 Jan +- 3 days
Extract of Expertflyer returned:-
HHOW1 JQ H Round-Trip 646.00(AUD)
KHOW1 JQ K Round-Trip 706.00(AUD)
SLF3MAU MH S Round-Trip 716.00(AUD)
BST9MAU MH B Round-Trip 826.00(AUD)

Is this all I need to provide to a Travel agent? Which looks best?
Now there will be tax and commission on this. Even when provided this result BF over the phone came back and said $1500 odd.

Do I need to click on availability after the fare search?
I presume there is a way to drag up fare class, so I can see the differences in JQ - which one has luggage etc. I seem to have trouble finding it.

Thanks

IMHO, Expert Flyer doesn't have the most intuitive fare searches around - would instead recommend going to QPX - ITA Software, as you'll be able to fare up a trip that a TA will be able to ticket for you.

For the dates and cities you've mentioned, I'm seeing some reasonable fares on JQ and MH - frankly, I'd be taking the MH option over JQ any day (the JQ fares involve transiting through DRW, which means long flights on an A321 - yuk).

The other nice thing is that the ITA Software site will give you the fare construction, which should help a TA pull up the same fare that you're seeing online. An example of the MH fare construction line I found:

Code:
SYD MH X/KUL MH SGN 541.53WFX1YAU MH X/KUL MH SYD 449.42KFX1YAU NUC 990.95 END ROE 1.167050 XT 47.00AU 47.38WY 16.60MY 15.50JC 304.80YQ

Hope this helps :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think your problem is one of lack of availability of H, K, S on the JQ flights on the days you want to travel. EF is showing JQ73 on 10thh December as:

JC DC Y4 B4 V4 TC SC RC QC OC NC MC LC AC KC HC EC CC

So only Y, B and V fares offered for sale currently. The "C" means the fare class is "Closed".

Story Ends.

He booked AirAsia + KL add on legs for $940 odd return, because he could not risk playing it out. And he drives RT to MEL.

Comments.
1) Travel agents acted dumb with the codes or could not work in a win-win margin. BF muttered 1500 odd.
2) Unless I missed something XpertFlyer did not pick AK flights well on fare information.
3) Tiger, Jetstar, SG, EK and MH, and Brunei missed out. For cattle class and woeful ticket conditions , I would have thought $450 outbound is good money worth taking now with PacificPeso at .92.
4) I guess there is collusion in the Christmas block, but they will be gooses if there is another rates rise, or an earthquake, or the lemming like rush does not happen.
5) I spotted QF silently dumping seats (now+2 weeks) that were competitive with the usual mob. Little late, but right play.
6) Airlines are playing a radically different game in .au this year, because they have been bleeding. I hope they get cut.
7) Tiger. You are Dreamin if you think you will get those premium prices, and both SG and JQ and TG will be glad to carry what you don't want.
8) I wont lay bets, but my hunch is USA, Can and Mexico share will grow, with the extra to Asia capacity - will not be filled, unless someone breaks ranks. What GFC.
