Looking at QF SYD/HNL many flights next couple weeks (for instance) on the refurbished 767 are only about one third full, so QF must be losing lots dosh.

QF are some $200 more expensive currently than HW for a return, then HW have new aircraft out of SYD and a new route out of BNE, my question is, why does QF not have a fire sale on all these empty seats or at least offer them to QFF members at low point cost?, bums on seats is the name of the game.

Are you taking the one third full by the allocated seats?

my experience with EF is it usually shows that the flight is mostly empty until check in time.

I see, well there ya go... learn something every day. I'll check it in the lounge with drink in hand 1st March.

Most of the seats are Y nothing special like exit.

As others have said not everyone selects a seat (status or not) before a flight

For the 1st March, there are 50 seats free in Y. With J having 14 seats avail.

Hell of a lot empty...

Actually, that just shows a lot of unallocated seats. Many passengers do not have seats allocated until they show up at the airport for check-in.

I am not suggesting the flight is not in fact lightly loaded. I am suggesting that making such an assumption based on a seat availability map is not valid.

My understanding must have been incorrect, thought EF shows seats sold not allocated.
One would think that an airline would want to limit the amount of public availability of that sort of data.

If you as a consumer could find it rather easily, just imagine how useful an airline's competitor would find the same information!

Anyone flying to HNL on the next few weeks so we can see what the actual loads are like on those flights. As others have said - the QF flights could be full. Here's a peek at what someone shopping for an Y class seat to HNL would be seeing:

limewood - Maybe I am just cynical but if the loads were a bit light then I think the reason we don't see QF reducing prices has something to do with their mates in the orange and silver planes whom are one of their competitors in this market. ;)

The last option is not very enticing to me.......

Me thinks its more to do with HW having new aircraft out/into SYD plus the new route BNE/HNL/BNE. Two friends coming with us selected HW instead of QF due to price being $200 cheaper and better plane.

Rather than use EF I just checked my QF booking, its showing on 1st march about 80 free Y seats, so either not selected or its going real empty.

Gotta lov the Virgin priced atr $140 more for the same flight, or the QF $4k fare to tavel on JQ....
