Probably an easy question for the experts on AFF but this is being posted into the "Your Questions" area.

I'm booked SYD to LHR on QF1 in Y+, and have an upgrade request placed. If the upgrade is successfull, is it for the entire journey, or are there instances where only one leg, SYD>DXB, or DXB>LHR is given the upgrade?

I assume the loads are lighter between DXB and LHR, so wouldn't that increase chances?

great question... wondering the same thing so figure if i input here I'll get notified when your question is responded to

I'm fairly sure if you are booked on QF1 straight through an upgrade request can only be made for the whole flight.
Last year I flew LHR-MEL and I remember deliberately booking LHR-DXB on QF2 then DXB-SYD on QF10 so I could try to upgrade the DXB-MEL sector only.

Yes.

No. Qantas' systems can't handle it. Confirmed it with the CSM on board when we were in a similar situation earlier this year.

That was our observation, but those unallocated J seats between DXB and LHR (or v.v.) will remain empty, unless.......

The IFE in a couple of nearby PE seats wasn't working properly, so those passengers were given the option of watching their movies in the otherwise empty J seats.
