Switching from earning QFF points to Velocity.

I changed from a QFF earning NAB card for a VFF one, over the phone - easy. Pleasantly surprised to then get the new card bonus!!
I have just rung and changed from the NAB Qantas Signature card to the NAB Rewards Signature card.

I was told I would receive no bonus points which is OK as am looking for the Velocity points now. Some other nice changes - from 12th June the fee changes to $24 per month rather than $295 per year, and NO international transaction fees! 😊

(The monthly fee will be waived if you spend over $5,000 per month)

The points - 1.5 NAB Rewards or 0.75 Velocity point per $ - but that applies to the first $15,000 rather than $5,000 for the Qantas card

All in all - I'm really happy esp with the no int transaction fees.

As an existing card-holder, I don't recall being advised of this. Better not be just for new card holders!

120k rewards points (60k Velocity or 40k Asia miles/Krisflyer) for only $24-48 doesn't sound too bad at all. Or spend $5000 for 'free' bonus points after 1 month, but it is a lot of money. Might not be a 120k offer by the time it gets to June however.
 
Subjectively I feel like to get to Japan (a common destination for me), Velocity points are a bit worse than Qantas points. In the past, ANA released lots of last-minute availability, but these days it seems like that has all dried up. ANA and JAL premium class releases seem to be more or less identical (that is to say, not much at all), but QFF has two advantages: Qantas Business is sometimes available, and you can sometimes snag a JAL First Class seat.

Technically you can go VFF on SQ via. SIN, but this isn't very practical from a cost or time perspective unless you live in Perth.

Of course, to get to Europe (where most people seem to want to go), VFF is definitely superior.
 
I don't think that's the case. Instead, it is sakura season at the moment so flights to Japan are rammed full. Still ample availability on the homeward leg. Literally every day:
I feel like that's new because I didn't find any space when booking my late Jan/early Feb trip (checked in mid Jan), but either way it's good to see it back, even if only in one direction.

Did you need to do anything special to get this? I have had the NAB Qantas card for about 2 months and received the bonus points, and thinking of changing it over to the Rewards card because of the above changes (and potentially getting the bonus Rewards points).

Do you mean for the QF points because you didn't complete the requirements, or on the new NAB Rewards card?

No, I wasn’t even thinking of it when I switched the card and it was never mentioned. I just noticed the bonus points in the account a bit later. But I don’t think it’s on offer any more judging by comments up thread
 
I've been wanting to swap my points earning efforts from QFF to VFF, but the poor awards availability and lack of international multi city search ability (can only search for one leg at a time?) is holding me back.

I had a look at a simple one way flight from Melbourne to Singapore in early June and there's hardly any availability for business reward seats - merely economy and some even via SFO!

You'd have to be insane to even consider MEL to SIN via SFO!

A couple of recent SAS Euro J flights were on par with what I’d imagine Jetstar Y flights are like at home.

I had 2 inter-Europe business flights on BA and AY last year - both on narrowbodies and they were just fine. Certainly better than regular Jetstar that's for sure.

As long as you know to expect regular economy seats with the middle seat blocked out, you're good to go.

With Qantas, very few of its partners have reliably good availability to Europe. China Airlines is about it.
Also, getting from Asia to Europe isn't really an issue for QF - Take your pick from AY, BA, RJ, EK, CI, UL, JL, AF, KL, CX, MU and many days have availability.

Maybe on EK yes, but for BA / CX and others, it's increasingly getting harder for a direct long haul flight from Asia to Europe.

Even JL long haul is lacking options unless you book literally 1 year in advance.

Had one on BA the other day and the service was fantastic.
The 3 SAS flights were absolute garbage. Terrible airline and product
