QF website today, first class sale, it is cheaper to fly to Perth to London @ $12704 than Dubai @ $12867.

That is usually if not always the case in all classes.
On random dates in October in Y or J:
PER-DXB return 1827 8994
PER-LHR return 1779 7803

It may be insane but it isn't an error.

This type of pricing is common.

It is often higher to fly to an airline's hub (especially on a non-stop service), while flights beyond that hub, subject to competition from other airlines, will be lower.

Other examples might be JFK-LHR-CDG will be cheaper on BA than a simple JFK-LHR, and the reverse will hold true for Air France.

Savvy customers on one way tickets will often buy the through fare and throw-away the last sector. Airlines however frown on the practice and claim it is against their terms and conditions.

Saw similar prices again today. I assume it is normal.
