I use to live in NQ and use to get excited about Cyclones.

But as a adult do not like them at all.

Fair enough, but you'd also be old enough (back then) to have a perspective on the upset they cause to people's lives.

But I also get the "no school" perspective.

It is often an education to experience nature in its raw talent.
Within Philipppines.. I have often experienced many Typhoons first hand., with much cautiousness & respect..
I am all the very much wiser as a result.

Still live in NQ (when I'm not here in mainland China...) and cyclones are very exciting but not in a nice way.
I've been through a few. During Yasi I got a bit complacent with our rock-solid old Queenslander's ability to stand up to a bit of a blow and sat on the (well-sheltered) deck, calming ale in hand, to watch the truly awesome show (the big lemon-scented gum's ability to flex with the wind was just as impressive as the house's determination to resist it). My observation and admiration lasted until a large piece of the neighbour's roof went skating across the deck roof just above me.
Much self-admonishment accompanied my rapid retreat.
Exactly as you say, jetlagger, caution and respect = wisdom (and maybe a slightly longer life!) but I must admit that it was an unforgettable experience to sit and watch nature unleash her fury all around me.
