Hi there

This is not a request for specific assistance, but more for advice on how I might strucutre an upcoming flight. Im looking at SCL-SYD via USA and Europe over about a 1 month period. Id be looking at around 6 stopovers in the US and 3 in Europe. Im looking at what sort of ticket i might use. I fly QF and would prefer oneworld if possible. Ive looked at RTW (both paid and points) and in this case be sacrificing the last leg. The paid is possibly a little pricey given I do have a minor stash of QF points I can use, but the oneworld explorer on points has very limited stopovers by the looks of it. I was thinking perhaps doing one way points flights for some of the long haul legs (eg SCL-USA, USA-Eur and Eur-Aus) and then separate bookings for the USA internal flights and the Europe sectors (or even using the fantastic train network there). Does anyone have any other suggestions of what might work? Please, dont spend lots of time thinking as id like to work out the details myself (and have that fun for me) but just need a bit of a framework to work with.

Thanks in advance!

The missing leg return leg to SCL and wanting to finish in SYD makes it difficult.
An un used return from SYD may be best. Return fares to Aust can be far cheaper in Eu & USA than the other way (from Aust)

1 option
SCL-SYD on points/cash
SYD-USA return. Internal USA flights can be cheap to buy
USA-EU return. A lot of options USA to Europe on many carriers. In Eu take a train

Or a paid One World Explorer *ONE* fare. Aust-USA-Eu-Asia-Aust is *ONE4 with 16 segments. Is not possible to do a *ONE3 that includes Australia.

The OP already ruled them out due to the limit on stopovers.

I thought they ruled out the QF points version (140k/280k) because of the stopover limit, and the cash version because of the price.

Hopefully not overthinking and ruining things, but assuming you went with points for the major legs, you could then use the AA instant upgrade fares in the US to significantly boost your status by flying in F. Probably yields some points that'd be helpful to your account too. The return leg to Australia, if on Qantas, could perhaps be a JASA to also earn, instead of simply burn.

Thanks for these suggestions. It looks like i might try for points legs for the longer parts and then buy the internals. Ill let the board know if there are any interesting things that come up!
