Good news since V Australia dumped the routes.

Strategic to fill V Australia coughet gap - Airline News - etravelblackboard.com

Strategic to fill V Australia coughet gap
Friday, 19 November 2010

Set to become the only Australian carrier offering direct flights from Melbourne to coughet, Strategic Airlines has today announced direct flights to coughet from Brisbane and Melbourne.

With flights starting February 2011, Strategic’s move follows news of V Australia’s withdrawal from the coughet route, the Herald Sun reported.

One time charter operator and Australia’s newest full service carrier, Strategic will offer two weekly full service flights (on Tuesdays and Fridays) from Melbourne to coughet starting from 22 February 2011.

The flights will be operated by an Airbus A330 aircraft offering both business and economy class.

“We are thrilled to be starting Melbourne operations and to be offering Victorians a brand new airline choice,” Strategic Airlines’ commercial head Damien Vasta said.
“We believe there is a strong traffic base between Victoria and Thailand and we look forward to working with partners in tourism and industry to build our services over time,” he said, adding that the airline considers the new route integral to Strategic’s international network growth.

Also on offer will be twice weekly (on Thursdays and Sundays) Brisbane to coughet flights, beginning operation on 24 February 2011.

“Queenslanders have thrown their support behind our new airline and our Brisbane to Bali services launched last year,” Mr Vasta said.
“So much so we are thrilled to add Thailand to our network complementing our new twice-weekly Brisbane to Townsville and Bali services starting next month,” he said.

Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday 24 November 2010 with fares commissionable to travel agents at five per cent.
From 3 December 2010, Strategic Airlines will launch flights to Denpasar and parts of Western Australia and North Queensland from Perth and Brisbane.

Guess that fits with thier current routing to DPS.

Anyone know of the loadings on BNE-DPS (via TSV)?

Don't know how long this will last, if it didn't work for VA it won't work for Strategic either.

You need to have a market ex HKT to Oz & there isn't one.

I guess they've got to do something with their A330 since they lost the ADF contract to the ME.

The A330 would be far more economical to run on this route than a 777-300ER.

There is massive numbers of Australians going to coughet , they might do fine. Jetstar run an A330 on Sydney/coughet quite successfully already.

Should be interesting when their 1 x A330 goes u/s, it's not like they have to deal with a planeload of troops that are happy to be told to suck it and just take orders ;)

Operating on the days JQ doesn't might win points. Would have when I flew to HKT.

Flights start December 3. I've heard advance bookings are strong. I will be on the flight on December 31. :)

There is a market there, V Australia flights had solid loads. It's just the yields that aren't so good. Strategic might be able to make a go of it with the more suitable A330 on the route.

I'm suprised no one has asked this already but...

Why aren't they a member of an alliance? No points flying if we dont get miles

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

And no points on JQ either for Y- cheap and  fares. :p:arrow:

They don't have a points program because until very recently they were an exclusively charter operation. You don't need an alliance when your business is charter.

I love the comment about there being no market ex HKT. Well if people fly in there, they'll need to fly out again...call me simple but I think that's a market. Sure there may not be a big market of Thai people flying into Oz from there but those holiday makers have to have a way back home.
