Staying classy in the VA Lounge

Maybe I should be wearing my "fake" crocs onto the flight I have coming up this weekend.
It will be a VA flight, ADL - SYD (turnaround) QF SYD-MEL (o/night) QF MEL-ADL.

*side eyeing* Im guilty of wearing crocs on flights but I can assure you my feet are clean and do not smell. Ive since taken to wearing more appropriate footwear but cant beat a comfy croc.

GunsNRoses tee shirt... acceptable?

While i don't wear a GnR shirt. I am usually found in lounges wearing some form of metal band logo emblazed on my tshirt. Is this some how not acceptable? I am lucky to have a job that allows me to wear what ever i feel comfortable in. I am always polite and have never done anything listed in this thread. So i am going to say, yes.

I agree. Choice of clothing is very much individual as long as it doesn't offend or impact on others. Same as those who wear flouro shirts. That's fine as well, but a flouro shirted group swearing loudly in the lounge is offensive as is the same behaviour by a business suited group. I was once in the HSP exec lounge and seated on a table beside us was a well known Aussie Rules player who, it would seem, struggled to string more than three words together without dropping the F or C bomb. We left and I explained to my (then) 11 year old daughter that Aussie Rules players have a combined intellectual capacity not exceeding that of a common garden pea and he was obviously less educated than she was. Yes, that was a tongue in cheek generalisation, but some so called role models are in need of role models. If I had a nasty streak, I would have recorded the conversation (it certainly wasn't soft) and sent it to every media outlet even remotely interested. Lucky I don't have a nasty streak (often).

It certainly does not hurt to consider others when choosing clothing, footwear, where to carry out personal grooming, where you rest your feet and both the type of conversation and volume of conversation. I think it's called courtesy.

(oh and I can and do swear like a trooper myself......where appropriate)

I ...a well known Aussie Rules player

Last year I got to share a lounge and a plane with about 20 or more (I didn't count but it was a teams worth) NZ rugby players and I can honestly say, each one was a gentleman and if they were swearing, I didn't hear a thing. Nice to see, although I think they did a fair amount of damage to the food bar and the plane did run out of beer :).

GunsNRoses tee shirt... acceptable?

I saw them in Oz in 1988. I must have been the only person there wearing a Quiksilver t-shirt, I was surrounded by a scary looking army of black mega-anthrax-death shirted types and many of them were giving me dirty looks. Fights broke out in the seats, seriously. Scary. So no, no GnR tees in the lounge please. Particularly from the Chinese Democracy period or anything referencing the truly hideous November Rain.

Side nite: early in the VA ADL the lounge, computers off.
About to depart for SYD then MR SYD to MEL to ADL.
Do you dare to try and turn computers on?
Quite dark no torch!
Multiple pocket tradie shirt and black work shots...
Using ipod with the password of the day.

I see someone had snuck an outside plastic drink bottle of OJ in.
Half drunk... so VA staff have to throw it out.
Mmmmm... smuggle in outside drinks.
The gall of some.

heh heh, i dont care, were all people, grubs and all, some would say i am a grub, you know how many death stares i get being the only guy in J class wearing Hi-Vis...

Anat0l first few words on that reply is scary, ...
But I guess it can happen on long flights, if you are in the window seat and can't wake the person next to you, or the two next to you to get to the loos.
And another question, how do people do the big bizzo on the plane loo?

I avoid going to the loo on the plane unless absolutely necessary. I was flying QF HKG-SYD in Y 2 weeks ago, and one of the toilets at the back of the bus was absolutely horrid within 2 hours of takeoff. I mean you could not stand on a dry piece of floor. Not sure if it was water, or if people urinated on the floor. If it was water, I'm not sure how someone can manage to spill so much water on the floor. If it wasn't water, I'm not sure how someone is able to do that either.
Either way I wasn't finding out, and ended up going to a different lavatory. I flew Air Asia SYD-KUL last november, and one of the toilets was trashed even before the flight took off. It was disgusting, as though it wasn't even cleaned after the inbound flight. Yuck.
