Hi guys

I've looked through a couple thread but I'm a bit confused.

I will need to do a status run this year...looking to do the syd-nan...

I've seen a couple threads departing from bne?

what is the standard one? and how can i be cost effective and achieving the max SCs from syd?

with the booking as well...do i just book through qantas website using the muti-city?

Thanks!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For best benefit you need to pick dates that route though SYD and MEL. (e.g. BNE-xMEL-oSYD-NAN)

The Multi City can be used to book this.

Note that you are entitled to a free stopover at the Oz international departure/arrival port.

To clarify that, one on the way out and one on the way back, so you can do the BNE-MEL-SYD legs at your lesuire before the trip and the reverse after your trip as well, this comes in handy if you want to spread the SCs over to qualification for a different year.

Two other things to note is that you can book and hold this fare, which helps locking in low fare bucket seats in peak season (I booked a Xmas trip for this year yesterday and have to pay it a week before), while this does not prevent fare changes its unlikely to vary much.

The other thing to note is that its also a good fare for a family holiday, with Kids pricing in at $1000 return, so the difference to the normal Y round trip is not much!

In order to book it you need to use the multi city and do BNE-MEL, MEL-NAN and vice versa, you can take the direct MEL flight which drops the SC earn by 20 SCs each way.

so how do i need to book the ticket?

all with J class?

BNE-MEL
MEL-SYD-NAN

then return?

That was the case however today it looks like that routing is no longer cheap, the only way to get a reasonable fare now with a few nice connections is to book ex PER.

There are some good options to go to Townsville. I have one booked for Mel-BNE-TSV but you can also do SYD-BNE-TSV. You can get there are back in one day, ie no need for accom and spend the day sleeping in your J seat. You can book a JASA on this route (ex Syd) for around 67,000 points and will net you 200 SCs.

I'm not sure if I'll need my trip but I booked it in for May and can cancel it at any time for a full points refund.

I am a bit of a novice so others on this site may correct me that this is not amazing value but I thought it was :)

ADL-BNE-TSV is cheaper than MEL-BNE-TSV, usually 30K versus 47K or 24K + $100 versus 36K + $143, around 12000 points for 60 SC is good value.

I was thinking about the NAN SC run as well but that is now gone....:(
My needs: 370SCs to retain Plat.
Conditions: As low cost as possible, ex Syd, least possible of time, within Oz, mininum nights away from Syd:p:shock:

I came up with this:
Sat: Syd-Cbr (YASA); Cbr-Mel-Hba (JASA); overnight in Hba
Sun: Hba-Syd-Cbr (JASA); overnight in Cbr
Mon: Cbr-Mel-Hba (JASA); Hba-Syd-Cbr (JASA); Cbr-Syd (YASA)

380 Status Credits earned for $526.96 costing 80K QF pts (but earning 12736 QF pts as QF Plat so net cost in pts is 67264 QF pts) + 1 night in Cbr and 1 night in Hba.

Why YASA between Syd-Cbr instead of buying the ticket? Because I can book the YASA and JASA as a multicity on one ticket so have some protection in case of flight delays...
My only concern is the 5 flights on the Monday!!:shock::shock:...plenty of things that can go wrong....

Anyone have a better suggestion for me:?::?:

That looks pretty good, I too was about to book the whole family on a NAN run and spend some time over there for a holiday!!! BUM :(

KPC, if you want someone to join let me know, happy to do a status run like this

If you have the time and feel like going to the states, there are some great value YUP fares on AA ex HNL. Try a routing like HNL-LAX-JFK-SJU and return.. Roughly 700 SC for under $2k (plenty of posts on the AA YUP fares around and worth a read)

anyone can suggest any other status run route for around 320 SC? with low cost?

If you only wanted to pay cash then LAN SYD-AKL-SYD is still pretty good.

For AU$749 you can book Business class on LAN SYD-AKL-SYD earning 160 SC.
While you are in AKL you could also squeeze in the inverse AKL-SYD-AKL for AU$626 again earning 160 SC
So you would do SYD-AKL-SYD-AKL-SYD

So AU$1375 would get you 320 SC. You would also need to stay 2 nights minimum in AKL. On a purely money basis (excluding ASA) that is probably the best you would get starting from Australia now that the NAN run has been changed.

That's not a bad option. Has anyone had any issues with NZ immigration over this one? Every single time I go to NZ I managed to get drilled as to why I'm even going there! I got stuck for 10 minutes with one guy when I was going over for one night just to catch up with some friends for dinner.

I am doing the SYD-BNE-TSV JASA in February to earn 200 s/c at cost of 67,818 points (or 48,000 plus $212). You can do this in one day, so maybe you can do this twice for 400 s/c? This would cost around double your current points SR but benefits are you earn 2,980 points per trip as a WP with no overnight expenses.

If you are travelling on an Aus or NZ ePassport then you can use the Smartgate and not even have to talk immigration. Although you'll have to give your arrival card to the customs and quarantine people, but they are more interested in what you are carrying rather than how long you will stay.

Great minds think alike:idea:....I came to a similar conclusion as well this am. Despite the greater points requirement, this is offset by some major positives including no overnight stays (and costs), don't have to take Monday off work, and I can split the flying over 2 weekends.
Other routes I looked at include: Syd-Bne-Tsv (overnight)-Bne-Drw-Bne-Syd for 360Scs costing 84000 pts (but also earn 14826 pts as WP) and $380, and Syd-Mel-Adl (overnight)-Bne-Tsv-Bne-Adl (overnight)-Syd for 380 SCs costing 96000 QF pts + $502 (and earn 12813 pts as WP);as my parents live in Adl, my accommodation in Adl is "free".

Some good runs there - I am doing BNE-SYD and staying with my parents there for the "free" accomm. Will take a day out for SYD-TSV before the return leg of SYD-BNE which will be 420s/c in total. I am on 50% bonus s/c until 31 March to "help me retain gold". I am looking at all options to get me to WP and there's an outside possibilty I might just make it.

I'd suggest CBR-SYD-ADL (100SC) over SYD-MEL-ADL(80SC). Followed by ADL-xBNE-TSV then TSV-xBNE-DRW. Then reverse.
