Due to limited frequency ex. DRW, I'll be flying into SYD about 8pm on Sat 1 Nov for an evening commitment on Sun 2 Nov. All things being equal, I'll have around 20 hours to spare.

Status run or airport hotel?

Suggestions for either option appreciated.

Edit: There's no immediate status benefit to be gained, just a small contribution to the lifetime total. If I did it the status run would really be just for the fun of it and to say I'd done my first.

An overnight status run SYD-MEL-AKL-SYD would "save" on accommodation but you won't be able to afford any misconnection in SYD or MEL...

I looked at that, but being Saturday the last SYD-MEL service is 20:15 and I think it's too tight on the SYD connection to be worth the risk.

JQ529 departing SYD at 20:25 and on the same booking as the connecting AKL flight if possible?
