In part of my European Xmas trip I *was meant to fly to Vienna from London.
(original ticket was BNE-SYD-LHR-VIE-LHR-SYD-BNE)
It was booked on BA using a travel agent.

Due to the closure of Heathrow our flight got delayed 24 hours in Bangkok before going on to london where my connection for Vienna was missed (and cancelled anyways) - and due to the delay meant no point flying the next day as we were only in VIE for 2 days.

I tried ringing BA when I was in UK, endless loop there.
Now that I'm back- what should I expect when I ring the TA or BA ?
The extra flight only cost about $90 from the normal price we paid- but could I argue for a credit somehow?

Also - now I'm only 5 SC's away from Gold (why we were taking a side trip)
you think Qantas would give me a credit for original routing ?

I would imagine a call to QF requesting original routing credit should do the job, especially given the situation you are in re status.

I have been bagging my head trying to explain the situation to qantas.
Sighh!!!!!!!!

You were unable to take the flights due to the missed connection following the bad weather at LHR, the delay making the flight pointless at a later date. I am sure they will find 5 SCs for you.

If you had eventually travelled to VIE, then I would agree that "original routing credit" for status credits and points should be applicable. But if you did not travel the LHR-VIA-LHR segment at all, then I do not expect you will receive any Status Credits as any form of compensation. You may receive some sort of monetary credit/refund and maybe even some "sorry for the disruption" points or voucher. But I would not expect any compensation in the form of status credits.

However, it is possible that Qantas FF may upgrade your FF status to Gold if you can find someone to understand your situation and only being 5SC short of the mark.

Wouldn't it be safer to do a cheap BNE-SYD-BNE run over the weekend just to be sure?

haha your words are so close to what the lady told me. She said because the flights were BA they cant just give me the points incase BA give me a refund for the flight (???).

In any case I'm talking to my travel agent about part refund for the cancelled flights, QF said if I don't get any refund for the cancelled flight I can ring back and discuss the problem further.

I do have 5 months to earn the extra 5 points to gold... I think I'll make it fine.

I tried to explain that the flights were cancelled over two days we had planned to go to VIE. And that it was Impossible to contact BA anyway!

/lateral thinking/

Perhaps see if they'll give you a red e-deal BNE-SYD-BNE in lieu of a refund (so you'll get the SCs anyway). About equivalent to a LHR-VIE-LHR...

If you got a few months to go I suppose its not a big deal, still a bit of a PITA since your next flight wont have the benefits you planned to have.

The only difference at the moment is the better chance of an op-up as I still have 6 months of QP membership, but it would of been nice to be just given the benefit of the doubt by Qantas and given the 5SC's.

Priority Check In, Priority Security screening and better seat selection not your thing?

I mostly travel with the better half who is already gold.. so I get that already- although that costs me more in the long run :mrgreen:

If QF did grant you a waiver at least you would be able to put that 6 months in credit for use when SG runs out :D
