OK, so I know I should know the answer to this but cannot get my head around it.

My requal date is 1 May. I'm flying to the UK on SQ this week with family who are pooling to me but because of booking class OB leaves me short on Platinum requal before 1 May. My return flight is May 2 & 3rd which will give me more than enough sc to requalify.

Q1: Would Virgin be likely to requalify me given my upcoming flights? I have already got enough elligible sectors.

Q2: If not, and I soft fall to Gold do all sc (and elligible sectors) earnt revert to zero and I need to start from scratch or do they continue to roll over on 12 month basis from when flown - ie will I drop to Gold for, like, 2 days then upgrade back up to Platinum when the SQ flights hit the account?

Sorry if a bit confusing - trying to get the kids ready for bed but this is more important :)

thanks for your help

Q1 Unlikely from what has been said by others in your case; You could call the GCC, or even PM the VFF Rep here, but I doubt you'll receive a positive response.... But...

Q2 Unlike QF where the credits all drop on a set date, VA Status Credits are a rolling number over 12 months - So you'll have Platinum after your flights in early May, assuming the SCs and sectors are all in order :)

I think that would depend on what happens on your 1 May requal date... if you mean that this is the 12 month anniversary of a trip where you earned a VA Plat status-upgrade then you (technically) didn't requal and will drop to Gold. Remember that the SCs from that trip 12 months ago will 'expire' around the same time so, accounting for this drop in your rolling SC balance, if the return journey SC pool from your family gets you over the WP line again you should upgrade (after the review is conducted).

If the Status Deity is looking kindly on your particular situation it is possible that you VA could save themselves the trouble and just comp the WP for the couple of weeks seeing as you will requal anyway.... but this is in the lap of the gods. I recall reading (on AFF) that there is an algorithm to determine if status is comped which takes into account recent history over several years but I'm not sure if this was QF, or if future bookings are counted.

Good luck.

Many thanks for that - its really helpful. I will forget about option 1 (comp requal) happening and rely on simply requalifying in its own right. If I have done my maths right I should head straight back up to Platinum by the time I get home.

thanks again... you guys are great. I'm off to pack :)

Also reviewing your status isn't instant (at least that's what I've seen when it comes to my Plat renewal each year?), usually takes 4-5 days to process, but by then like you said you will requal.

My point being though you should still get all the Plat perks on your way back.

erkpod - I'm tempted to say "5 ft 0" but I guess that's not what you mean ;). I need a good percentage of the IB credits to requal so they certainly wouldn't requal me without taking these flights into consideration. If I only needed 800 to requal I was going to pool some of the flights to hubby to get him lowly silver and a couple of lounge passes, but I don't want one to risk being a few short in case I do need 1000 so will just leave as is and he'll have to stick with flying with me.

The VA calculation method is a little complex at times. I would be inclined to seek advice from VA ahead of time to ensure you do get it right.
