No plans to stay with Marriott in the near future but I hope they will honour my SPG Lifetime Gold in the final merger and invest in better properties in Australia.

I suspect they will once the loyalty programs are merged in 2018. My hope is that they use more of the SPG program in the new combined program, whilst I have been a Marriott fan in the past, over the past 4-5 years I've pretty much exclusively been SPG with a stay here or there at JW Marriott. SPG is just so much more dynamic and a happening brand Marriott rewards looks and feels so old hat now.

Also I hope they combine lifetime nights from both programs once the loyalty merge happens, as I will probably have around 160+ days between the 2 programs by then.

Yesbut, I need AA miles :(. I already have exactly 0 UA miles.

What you need is free flights ;)
With 25K UA you are just 5K short from one way in J to South Asia. It doesn't necessarily matter how many miles you have in a certain programme, depends on your planned destination, it worth doing the math before choosing where to credit the points.

Diners is looking good at over 2 UA/$ (via SPG and Marriott) and about 1 UA/$ on the associated Mastercard

So, so agree with this statement. Because each program has different sweet spots you need to be prepared to be flexible. I don't have many points in UA but agree that they can be very valuable so we should at least consider them and the SPG to Marriott to UA definitely has some sweet spots..
