HOTEL operator Starwood Hotels & Resorts has struck a deal with Singapore-listed real estate group Hiap Hoe to run two hotels at luxury properties it is developing in Melbourne that are worth $700 million. The pair have struck a deal under which the group's planned hotel in the Docklands will be run as a Four Points and the hotel component of a project in Lonsdale Street will be run under the Aloft brand.
At Pearl River Road in the Docklands, the Singaporean developer is planning a 17-storey tower with more than 300 rooms and two residential towers, which will together contain 425 apartments.
The company has also set its sights on a hotel development at the Lonsdale Street site, where it intends to build a 350-room hotel and 658 apartments.

From 1 brand going up to 4, that's impressive. Even SYD has only 3 ATM.

It is about time they re emerged in Melbourne. It seems like forever since Sheraton Towers was sold off.

The Westin has been around for a while. The new Sheraton has an expected opening date of March 31 this year.SPG is well and truly catching up with Hilton.
Just need an ADL property.

And ideally a more upmarket BNE property.
only a 4Points opening in March

and frankly BNE needs more quality property.

Here I am getting all excited to post about this announcement and you have all beaten me to it! :)
This is very good news indeed, and interesting to see the introduction of two new Starwood brands to Melbourne.
Another good feature is the number of rooms planned for each hotel.
One hotel is at Docklands, and the other virtually in the middle of the city near the corner of Lonsdale Street and Elizabeth Street.
I guess with two upmarket brands in Westin and Sheraton, it makes good sense to introduce these "mid market" brands.
Incidentally the developers of these new properties already own the Four Points, Sydney.
Whilst we may have to wait two years till the new hotels open, it would seem the developers will not be backing out of these projects.
