From SYD, thats 140 SC's if I read correctly (only 120 from BNE though and between 100-120 from CNS).

Not too shabby...

Both CNS-KIX and CNS-NGO should be 120 S.C.s each way as both, by the Qantas calculator, are over 3601 miles.

On a closer look at this the t+c's do say : JetSaver conditions apply to both economy and StarClass fares.

What does this mean? That cancellation conditions apply to the Star Class fare or that the StarClass fare does not earn points and credits in common with jetsaver fares? I notice also that the promotion does not mention points earning. Hmmm. Anyone spoken to Jetstar?

turtlemichael,

That's probably one for Jetstar to explain.

I already had flights booked within the sale period ADL-SYD-KIX.
Called the JQ call centre to see if I could change to the Starclass promo and was told that because part of the itinerary (ADL-SYD) was on a QF codeshare they couldn't upgrade me.
I hung up, thought about it and called back to suggest that I could change to a JQ flight ADL-SYD. -- Still no go. They told me there were no seats available SYD-KIX at the promo rate on the date I requested. I pointed out that I had a dummy booking in front of me that showed there WAS availability and after many "I'll put you on hold and talk to my supervisor" about 45 mins later I've upgraded to Starclass for the princely sum of $118 plus $50 change fee.

Bargain! Persistence pays.

They've split the itinerary so I won't get points or SC's for the ADL-SYD sector but I have verbal assurance that I will get them for the SYD-KIX sector

The call centre operator told me they had just done the same for somebody from Hobart. -- Anybody here?

I will advise on the earning of points/SC's by the end of the month.

Starclass Promo T&C still seem to indicate I should be ok; however I did look at the cost of upgrading a $1195 Promo fare (SYD-KIX-(BNE-)-SYD) to normal

Class.

Given the fare difference is ~$1600, I decided to let that go ...

I did a booking too - to Osaka - 4 nights in March. Despite my doubts the process as I went through it seemed to be saying that the Star Class flights were not cancellable, as per normal Jetsaver rules, but they would earn business class SCs and points. We'll see. 30 hours after making the booking I have the reservation number but still no confirmatory email from Jetstar

If you get the chance go to Kobe; a great time and arguably my favourite city in Japan.

I booked on Friday evening ~5pm for the Oz Day Weekend; received my confirmation email yesterday @4:40pm

A day in Osaka

I have a full Sunday in Osaka (Jan27th - I guess is will be cool to cold).

Rather than doing a MR a la Kiwi Flyer i'd like to do some sightseeing.

It has been suggested that Ako may be worth a visit, and a look around Kyoto could be interesting.

Any ideas?

Still waiting for my confirmation though I only booked Sunday. They have at least raided the Amex.

Kyoto is certainly worth a visit but a day trip is ambitious though achievable. Train from KIX is around one hour 20 minutes and very frequent. Getting round Kyoto is the issue on a day trip. There are buses and two not very useful subway lines. I would hire a bike and do it that way! Even walking to the nearby sites would be okay .There is enough to see- the architecturally amazing station, Nijo Castle and Higashi and Nishi Honganji Temples would be my highlights on a quick visit.

I'll concentrate on Osaka and Kobe this time.

I am not sure of you exact plans but i often spend time in Kobe and find the best way to and from the airport is via bus to and from Sannomiya Station approx 1hr 10 mins and costs ¥1,800 (or 1700 if you can get a discount ticket from the discount ticket shop just near where the bus leaves)

From Sannomiya you can get a taxi to Kobe (since i have luggage for under 2000yen) or via train from a small fee.

Popular daytrips from Osaka include Kyoto, Kobe, Nara and Himeji. Kyoto is "old" japan with some lovely temples and shrines. They even have "elevator girls" in the department stores. Kobe is a small city and one of my favourites - perhaps not so interesting from a touristy perspective but I love staying there. Nara has temples and deer - small and quaint place. Himeji has the big castle. Haven't been to Ako. Of course if you're into "theme parks" then you could stay in Osaka and visit Universal Studios. The better half conned me into going once and it wasn't that bad. And Osaka castle may be worth a visit too.

Food wise that region is synonymous with Udon (type of noodle) and okonomiyaki - one of Lindsay Wilson's favourite dishes.
